This is definitely the best mouthpiece for the money! I have played many mouthpieces, I own eleven different ones, and I've given a few away! This very inexpensive Mouthpiece produces an excellent tone, good projection and ease of play. Try not to use reeds that are too hard. The professional standard reed (Vandoren or similar) strength 3 works very well. Students find an easier time making music.

This is a great mouthpiece for early students just learning how easily a mouthpiece can break. Beginners break mouthpieces, that's just what they do, and it's great to have an okay quality mouthpiece for the first couple months of playing. But do switch mouthpieces after this time. I learned the hard way. I got a Buffet R13 clarinet and I still played on this mouthpiece. I found that playing got very exhausting when I got into harder pieces of music. My private teacher recommended me the Vandoren M13. That has made all the difference to me. I realized that the premier gave me absolutely no control over my own playing. The M13 and M13 Lyre are much easier to play on, especially for young players. My advice is to let them play on the premier until they break it. This teaches them a lesson. Then buy them a better mouthpiece.

Comments about J & D Hite Premiere Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece:

This was the suggested upgrade mouthpiece for my 6th grade son from the band director at the school I work at. It is great quality, especially for the price! My son loves the ease of play on this versus his old one which came with the starter clarinet.

Great Beginner mouthpiece

Comments about J & D Hite Premiere Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece:

I am an amateur as player and find that as a parent other less knowledgeable parents have reached out to me for advice on woodwinds and equipment for their children as they take up an instrument. I bought this initially for my son in 6th grade after reading the reviews on WWBW, and it has been a great foundation mouthpiece for him. I paired it with a Rovner ligature and it has held up and performed very well for him. I have recommended this to many of my friends and neighbors as I have also helped them acquire horns for their children.

This may be a great mouthpiece but...

Comments about J & D Hite Premiere Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece:

I ordered this mouthpiece because it was described as made of hard rubber. Upon receiving it, it really was made of plastic. After a quick call to Customer Service I was sent a paid return label and returned my money. This is more a comment on the fine customer service I always receive from WW&BW. Five stars for them.

Excellent quality at a low price

Comments about J & D Hite Premiere Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece:

I am a band director, and I recommend this mouthpiece to every one of my clarinetists who aren't pursuing clarinet in college. It costs the same or less than a stock Yamaha 4C, and instantly transforms the student's tone and intonation. The mouthpiece is versatile, and it's possible to get both a bright sound (for jazz/marching) and a dark sound (for concert). Higher register is a bit brighter than most pro-line mouthpieces, but...for a plastic student mouthpiece, what more can you really expect? I advertise this mouthpiece, with Vandoren reeds and Luyben (or Rovner) ligatures to all my kids. With that combination, you can have ALMOST pro-level equipment at a fraction of the price.

Everything I had hoped for

Comments about J & D Hite Premiere Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece:

Well, not really--secretly I hoped for immediate genius transformation in my very beginner self taught abilities. I had almost given up after two weeks trying to get good sound out of an older used student Jupiter with slightly damaged mouthpiece. With my new Hite, I can actually play in the lower two registers, anyway, using a Rico Royal 3 reed. The nifty case means I can protect the mouthpiece from the kind of dings that ruined the mouthpiece that came with the Jupiter. Being without a teacher, I rely alot on internet, etc. It was the reviews on this site helped me understand that even tho the seller was able to demo the instrument and get decent sounds, she was probably able to compensate for the mouthpiece issues, whereas as a beginner I hadn't a chance. And of course I appreciate the quick shipping and great packaging. Thank you.

I wanted a good, high quality mouthpiece, but didn't want to pay a fortune. This mouthpiece is exactly what I was looking for. The price is unheard of, and the high notes easily come out without struggles.

Hite Premier mouthpiece for clarinet students

By

Comments about J & D Hite Premiere Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece:

As a clarinet teacher, I've tried many student mouthpieces over many years. The Hite Premier is the most consistent and the most inexpensive, and it supports a nice round sound. Even beginners notice the difference between stock mouthpieces and the Premier. It has a nice, wide tip lay and can can be coupled with Rico or Vandoren 2.5, 3.0 or 3.5 as the student advances. If it's broken by student accidents, it's easily replaced without any financial hardship. Band directors often recommend the Vandoren B45, but it's expensive and inconsistent. The premier makes my job easier as a teacher, and it gives the students an immediate tone improvement and, therefore, a boost in confidence. This is the only mouthpiece that I recommend for beginners and beginning/intermediate students.

The Quintessential Student Mouthpiece

Comments about J & D Hite Premiere Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece:

My first clarinet had Selmer Goldentone #3 which was easy to master, yet my teacher found it too "bright". Got a Yamaha 4C which has a great darker tone yet was harder to blow. Finally I awarded myself a Hite Premiere, and despite having tried other "better" mouthpieces, I still consider my Premiere the best for me. Easy articulation, not too hard nor too soft, just great. It's not the end of squeaks but definitely the end of hisses. A Rovner"dark" ligature works perfectly, and together with Mitchell Lurie #3 reeds you have a winning combination. I think I buy a second one, just to have a backup in case...
