Not a safe travel case for flights

By

from rochester,ny

Comments about J. Winter Flight Case for Baritone Saxophone:

All I can say for me that I went on 2 European flights and each time there was damage on the horn.People,it's a very expensive horn!! Spend the extra money and get a TOPLINE case if you plan on traveling a lot, especially on planes!

Light weight, OK quality

By

from Denver, Co

Verified Buyer

Pros

  • Light Weight

Cons

  • Poor Latches
  • Sticks When Opening

Best Uses

  • Protect Low A Bari Sax

Comments about J. Winter Flight Case for Baritone Saxophone:

I bought this because it was the lightest bari case I could find. I am very pleased with it because it is MUCH easier to handle than the coffin case that came with my new Yamaha 52. And it does seem to protect the sax fine for every day carrying around. But it is not the highest quality. The latches are not the highest quality and the case sticks when opening. But I bought it for its light weight and I am very happy with the purchase.

Doesn't fit a low B flat baritone.

Comments about J. Winter Flight Case for Baritone Saxophone:

It's a fine case in itself. but the limitation ought to be observed. I'm returning mine to buy the Protect gig bag which seems to be the only alternative..

Poor Padding/Poor Protection

By

Comments about J. Winter Flight Case for Baritone Saxophone:

I have a Yanagisawa Low A bari. 1. Fit not perfect, a little long for this horn, but that was fixable with additional padding. However, even with extra padding, you could still shake the case and hear the horn shifting. That was disconcerting. 2. This was the deal breaker: The padding is virtually non-existent. I recently purchased a BAM case for my M6 and it is plush in comparison (and a great case). The JW was the equivalent of velvet on plywood sans padding. 3. The top of the case doesn't stay up when you open it so you either have to lean it against a wall or have a large space to accommodate the case. 4. The carrying handle is fine as long as you aren't schlepping it for more than ten minutes. It isn't that comfortable/ergonomic. 5. I would never ship my horn in this case. I just wouldn't trust it. 6. Carrying Strap: It was easy to attach.

Great Protection for that Very Valuable Horn

Comments about J. Winter Flight Case for Baritone Saxophone:

I bought this J Winter Flight case about a year ago. It's everything it's said to be and more. You paid big bucks for your "Bari". This case may at first sound expensive, but when you think about what you paid for the horn, it's well worth it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Light weight and great protection for those long side rods.

J Winter Flight Case for Baritone Sax -- Low A

Comments about J. Winter Flight Case for Baritone Saxophone:

I'm very happy I picked this case to replace my beat up wood case. As contrasted to my old case, this one is pure class! I picked this over the soft cases because I wanted one that was light enough to carry but would also protect well enough to be my full time case. I would never want to depend on zippers like the soft cases use. I knew it would fit my sax because in the WWBW catalog this is the case used for the Keilworth Bari, which I could see is the same shape as my SML Bari. I was thrilled when I received it.. it has beautiful hardware with three clasps that all lock. The case is made in Germany. It has firm padding that fits my sax like a glove. No room for accessories, but I can easily carry a small bag for my cleaning swabs. It has a nice carrying strap to supplement the handle. For me the strap is of no particular help for carrying the sax. The strap would be a big help though to help secure the case in a car, along with seat belts, for example. It does not have wheels. While wheels in principle might add some convenience, the structure for the wheels would add bulk and weight. And wheels might not be stable without intentionally widening the case. I am satisfied to have the sleekest most compact case I could ever expect for such a big instrument. I recently carried the sax for about a quarter mile in the case with no ill effects. Not fun.. but it would not have been possible with my old case.
