Description
A better, more durable cork.

Jo Ral Tenor or Bass Trombone Straight Mute Cork
Jo-Ral Mute Corks feature a neoprene-enhanced composite. The result is a more pliable cork that grips well and does not dry out, become brittle, or break off, so it lasts longer while easily accommodating fine adjustments for a perfect fit. In an emergency, the self-adhesive design makes for a quick fix.

"Cork without the wine"

Per Brevig, my trombone teacher at Juilliard, gave some good advice to us many years ago: "First, buy a bottle of wine, then consume the contents..." Well, the only wine I can afford these days comes in a box or with a screw cap, so Per's solution doesn't work anymore. And, cutting up a bottle cork is not easy to do, even when sober. To say nothing of cleaning up the bloody mess... I haven't tried this yet, but 3M makes great industrial adhesives. Even old mutes that still have their cork benefit from a fresh R&R, as old cork hardens over the years. And, recycling a favorite old mute is always a good thing. Now, where is my credit card? (My mind isn't what it used to be. Long days of teaching, and a bottle of wine with dinner will do that to a man.)
