Jody Jazz DV Alto Saxophone MouthpieceThe JodyJazz DV Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece produces a bigger, fatter sound that is achieved effortlessly with better intonation and response. This mouthpiece was created to be the most efficient mouthpiece possible. That means that there are lots of harmonics and great projection, without the annoying shrillness that is associated with loud bright mouthpieces. This mouthpiece comes with Theo Wanne's innovative cap, ligature and pouch.JodyJazz uses a new proprietary CNC facing technology that puts the perfect facing curve on the mouthpiece. This results in absolutely no dead spots in the vibration of the reed, with the notes in all ranges responding equally. It has a husky barrel-chested tone, while being able to sing and soar over the top of any band. Subtoning and low notes are extremely easy and the altissimo is out of this world. Be prepared to have possibly the most fun you ever have had on the saxophone.

I have been through literally hundreds of alto mouthpieces on my Mark Six over the years, but have never gotten that right sound with just the edge for playing lead alto for solos. The DV alto achieved this for me almost right out of the box. It is effortless to blow and has a huge sound with all the beautiful overtones that an alto can have. Altissimo is so easy now, and the intonation is as perfect as I have ever achieved. I NEVER thought a metal alto would do it for me, but the Jody Jazz DV has. This mouthpiece is awesome. As for the price, I forgot about that as soon as I stated playing it. Thanks WWBW for allowing me to try it first.
Once in a while a product comes along that blows everything out of the water and redefines performance and quality. Jody Espina has done such a thing in the DV series mouthpiece. He now offers high baffle as well as a darker "New York" model in alto and tenor. Let me be plain about this. If you?re serious about your alto playing, your search for a mouthpiece will end here. If you're an older player a new energy and enjoyment will be born in you for playing. Jody offers a number of facings but you will want to either get a larger opening than you're used to or you will end up playing on a significantly stronger reed with this mouthpiece. At $450, the price for this piece is mind boggling but it should keep out all but the most serious of players. You will want to play NO other mouthpiece after you play this on and there is nothing it won't do. More in tune, bigger, fatter bottom notes, and full bodied high register notes as well as ease of harmonics for altissimo. It will be a long time before anyone puts out a mouthpiece that will surpass this one
The Jody Jazz Mouthpieces are excellent. I tried them all before deciding which was best suited for me. The DV is freeblowing and clear, allows for a lot of tone & dynamic control. The DV is loud and can take whatever you give it. I found that it was necessary to play a harder reed, or a reed with a thicker tip (Vandoren V16) as the softer reed and the thinner tip ( Vandoren ZZ) simply couldn't handle all the vibration and didn't do the mouthpiece justice. I personally decided that the DV NY was for me because I go for more of a vintage sound in smaller combo settings. But those playing contemporary, or needing a lot of volume especially leads in a big band would do really well with this piece.
I am primarily a tenor player, but i like to keep my chops up on all of the saxes like any good reed master should. I am in my fifth year of playing saxophone. I love to play jazz, and funk. This mouthpiece really is the funkiest thing ever made for sax. Its sound is so big!!! I love its bright sound, I am actually in the process of buying one for my tenor as well. Jody Jazz is killer!!
If you are thinking about buying this mouthpiece, don't think twice, just DO IT!!!
Sure, it is the Best mouthpiece ever. I wont talk about beauty. (But, its wonderful) Let's talk about sound. I've used in my life Beechler Bellite Custom #7, Dukoff D6, D7 and D8, Claud Lakey 7*3, Meyer 7MM, Vandoren JJ A95 and others...
But, if you are searching to a Bright and Balanced, with a Fat sound and easy alt?ssimos and low notes, this is the mouthpiece you want. Each cent you will pay, will return in sound to you.
And, dont be afraid to buy a number high than the number you use. What i mean to say, is, if you use a #6 mouthpiece, i recommend you to buy a #7 mouthpiece. If you use a #7, buy an #8.
As every lead alto sax player should know, out blowing the rest of the band can be hard at times especially if you want to keep good tone. I was looking for a mouthpiece that would supply superb projection, tone, and playability. The Jody Jazz DV was just that. I ordered a size 6 and received it within a week. The mouthpiece immediately blew away all previous mouthpieces I had tried, including Otto link metals and meyer rubbers. The DV gives incredible tone in the middle range and allows you to play freely in the lower and high registers. Finding a right reed for the DV was a challenge but in the end I found that Rico La Voz Mediums are the best. Vandoren Java Red are also acceptable. In conclusion, the quality of this mouthpiece definately outweighs the price and any sax player looking for a good metal should give this a try. Good job Jody Jazz and WWBW.
I have been playing professionally since 1967. I have done everything from professional orchestra to professional big bands. For classical playing, I use the Larry Teal mouthpiece. I allows me to produce the best classical sound without challenge. Through the years I have used a Brillhart 3* for big band because it gives me a brighter, edgier sound with more volume - perfect for playing lead alto. Recently, however, with more modern charts, I've struggled trying to keep up with blazing brass sections. I've never felt comfortable with metal mouthpieces, but after reading about the Jody Jazz DV I thought that I would give it a try. For years I've used a metal Brillhart Level Air on Bari, but, I've never liked the "feel" of metal on an alto.
Let me tell you, the instant I tried the Jody Jazz DV, I knew that I had found what I was looking for. Bright, easy to play, slight edge - everything that I hoped it would be. I've got a #7 and it's amazing! I know from experience that a mouthpiece that works for one doesn't always work for someone else, but, I recommend that you give it a try. Awesome!
