Jody Jazz HR* Alto Saxophone MouthpieceThe HR* (pronounced HR star) produces a beautiful, warm sound with free-blowing ease. This hard-rubber saxophone mouthpiece features a round, medium size chamber. The HR* is suited for traditional jazz, big band, straight-ahead and bebop, but also has enough power for more modem styles. This is a favorite of band directors for its ability to blend in with a section. From a source in Germany, this special hard rubber has the look, feel and sound of vintage hard rubber that make some of the world's most sought-after mouthpieces. Each mouthpiece is faced on a special facing machine and then hand finished.

The JodyJazz HR* Alto mouthpiece is one of the most versatile pieces I've had the opportunity to play. It's at home in virtually any style of music other than classical/concert band. (And many players might find it suitable even for that!) It has a nice core sound that can be shaped into virtually any sax tone you can think of. Especially when compared with the other fine pieces that JodyJazz puts out, the HR* is the best bang for the buck I've found in an alto mouthpiece.
I've been playing a Meyer for about two years. After a while, i was sick of the same jazz tone most people have. After lots and lots of research, this mouthpiece came on top. First of all, the quality of these mouthpieces are superb. The rubber they use for these mouthpieces is significantly different than most mouthpieces. 2. These mouthpieces have a different sound to them then what you'd get with most. 3. These mouthpieces get an 8.5 out of 10 on altissimo. (The altissimo is easier on this than my Vandoren Optimum!) They pop out so easily. For any jazz mouthpiece with easy altissimo is the one for me. DISCLAIMER!!: These mouthpieces require some serious chops. I was usually playing on ZZ 3's forever. This mouthpiece however, made me move down to the 2 1/2's. I was playing on blue box 3's which aquire some chop power already. --Overall this mouthpiece has an awesome sound, awesome looks, and awesome altissimo. Great for Big Band music because this mouthpiece isn't too bright! This mouthpiece is also the best bang for its buck. 10-10 A must get
This mouthpiece plays beautifully. And Ive always recommended this mouthpiece to my students. I use the model 6 with vandoren ZZ reeds. Its altissmo plays superbly with no effort and great tone that goes above and beyond my expectations. Its low range also comes out clearly. This mouthpiece is extremely free blowing making it easy to play. Its material is high quality and gives a great jazzy warm tone. This mouthpiece doesnt have a bright tone but rather a mellowy jazzy sound. Overall you should get this mouthpiece.
I got this mouthpiece in 6 and compared it to a Meyer and Otto Link Tone Edge (both 6) but this piece was the best of them. The Meyer had too much resistance and the super high and low didn't come out well. The Otto Link wasn't as bright and had indentation issues. So I went with the Jody Jazz and I LOVE IT! I use Vandoran ZZs 3s.
