Owned for three years. Outstanding intonnation and clarity. Free blowing. Tone can be rather rough when playing low register, but in jazz setting there is nothing better. Would not recommend for classical or chamber music. Terrific mouthpiece if tone limitations are understood. Wish I had one when I was in college!
Man this thing is loud. Almost an uncontrollable mouthpiece if you're not careful. I use this mouthpiece for Pep band purposes and for Jazz band purposes, when the opportunity arises. It does take a wider reed to get a nice sound. I was using a Brancher Jazz reed with it, but it became too "buzzy," which is fine for Jazz. For the pep band style I used a wamer reed like the Zonda 2.5, and was able to get a beautifully loud sound which wasn't unpleasant at all. It blended well instead of sticking out. This mouthpiece is amazing. I can bend a whole register, if not more, without having to slide my fingers off the keys, basically all throat bending. It's a very fun mouthpiece to work with, but it does take a tight embrochure to keep in tune. Try it and it will make you come back for more, very addictive.
I tried a few other mouthpieces before I found the JP. I personally love it, though to start off it was not my favorite. I had issues finding a reed combination, but finally tried a thicker reed to find that it was quite easy to play. Flexability is good, tone is good, and projection is the best. I can easily cut through my section and stand up against brass players. It is responsive in all ranges. I definately reccomend a test-play.
It is surprising to me that a mouthpiece this good is only 60 bucks. I play clarinet as a double and have to get a classical sound sometimes too, but they are right, the difference in the length of the tip facing helps. I play this mpc with an Eddie Daniels ligature and it is pure joy for me when I play my clarinet.
