My nearby music shop asked me to come in and play this for them to see what i thought about it. This horn has a lot of sound. It plays very well, except for the note transitions in the higher range (from high E natural up). The tone is rather broad which is the product of the rather larger than usual bell and dual bore system. Stainless Steel valves arn't my favorite but just oil them every couple of days. The price for these is worth every dime. The best mouthpiece to use with this horn would be a Schilke 51D. With it's deep cup, it helps bring out that dark tone.
Would like to start off by stating I have been playing euphonium for about 20 years now, did BM & MM degrees. I've played on a Besson Sovereign 967, silver for more than 15 years, and its great! I got to try one of these horns out through a local vendor and I must say I was very impressed. Solid sound from below pedal Bb to above Bb above the staff. Stable sound quality when performing ppp to ffff. Same intonation issues as my Besson, so its really not a big deal. Valves work well, and construction seems solid. Longevity of the horn would be my only concern, but only time will tell. Would definitely recommend in high school settings, I will be ordering one for my program, and if I could a second one as well. A sturdy case is included as well as a 5G Jupiter Mouthpiece. I prefer the Wick 4AL. Includes a valve gutter, just like Bessons. The price of these horn puts Besson, Willson and Yamaha to shame. A worth while investment.
