First thing you should do when you get this horn is take the two mouthpieces it comes with and either trash them or give them away. They don't play well at all on the instrument. I highly recommend buying a 6v MELLOPHONE mouthpiece and using that. The 6v is your best bet of producing a decent sound out of this horn. I will give the instrument credit for being very projecting, light-weight, and ergonomic. It is a very loud and comfortable instrument to hold. Now the reasons it isn't that great-Tuning. As a Mellophone and F Horn Player I understand that the Mellophone is not the most in tune instrument, but being a half-step sharp or flat on some notes after being tuned to a concert B-flat is an annoyance. Plus the only notes that seem to want to stay in tune (Sometimes) are those ranging from middle C (Below the staff) to the F on the top line of the staff. All the notes above that range go flat and all the notes below that range, also, go flat except for the low G. The Low G goes so sharp it is necessary to push down the the 2nd valve -Now you are playing a G when you should be playing an F#- to get it in tune. My verdict is don't buy it unless you have to. A better horn that runs less is a Bach Mercedes, they may come used but it is a very solid, well sounding instrument. If you have enough money though buy a Dynasty or a Yamaha Mellophone, those are the best.
