I just got my 482, and am truly amazed at how good the intonation is! I do NOT have to use any alternate fingerings to get it in tune! I did pull the first slide out about 3/4" and the same with 3rd valve. The tuning slide is at the bottom of the lead pipe and it has a water key which saves a lot of moisture going further on into the horn. I have a small hand and will mover the thumb ring to my right about 1/2". I use a Marcinkeiwicz H2 mouthpiece which is a copy of the helleberg, but a lot better, freely blowing with lots of overtones. This tuba is such a good deal. I know the price is going to soar, soon!
I've had my 482 for several months, and I like it more and more each day. This tuba is very well built and is finished about as well as any of the more expensive tubas I have owned over the years. I echo all of the previous posted remarks about this horn. The intonation is better than some tubas costing much more. The case is first class also. This is an excellent tuba for a comparatively small amount of money.
I THOUGHT I WOULD FOLLOW UP AFTER 6 MONTH OF PLAYING THIS HORN. THE BEST HORN I EVER BOUGHT FOR THE MONEY. PLAYS IN TUNE WITHOUT HAVING TO CONSTANTLY PULL SLIDES. FULL VOLUME COMPARABLE TO OTHER 4/4 HORNS. FINE CONSTRUCTION AND FINISH. THIS ONE IS A WINNER!
I just got my new Jupiter 482 3/4 concert tuba. Can't say enough about the horn. A little larger that most 3/4 horns but not quite a full size 4/4. Craftsmanship is very good. You will like the detachable lead pipe and valve section. Great for future repairs if needed. Intonation is excellent through all registers and tuning the horn is easy. The tuning slides are easy to reach and easy to understand. Bottom register has lots of power and upper register blows freely and in tune. The case that comes with it is a first class sturdy case. The price of this tuba is a real value. You can't go wrong with this horn.
I wholeheartedly concur with all the positive comments. I also have a Besson, a Jupiter 582, and a Lidl 3/4 CC. I was shopping for a 3/4 Bb, had played several other 3/4 tubas and ordered based on my enjoyment of the 582 . The 482 has a pleasing voice and response throughout the range, and the intonation is excellent. It's large bore gives it power in the low range. It is free blowing. It's bigger than other 3/4's but smaller than a 4/4. I'm 5'10 and it's dimensions are comfortable to hold and play. It's a nice size to transport. I am very happy with the instrument. During the short time I've had the 482 I've had several contacts with customer service and technical support. I'm happy to say the contacts were pleasant and productive.
