Jupiter 582 Concert Series 4-Valve 4/4 BBb TubaThis is the ultimate step-up concert horn for the advancing student or local symphony performer. It features a full .732" bore, 17-2/5" bell, 4 front-action valves with contoured nickel silver pistons, and nickel outer slides. Its beautiful rich tone, ease of blowing, and positive response make it capable of the most beautiful music. The innovative design of the Jupiter 582 tuba is unique. I purchased this tuba for use in a university ensemble. I loved its versatility to go from band to small ensemble to solo and give a beautiful tamber. I traveled numerous times with it, and fought with myself over selling it for 3 years after finishing with the band. A great choice for ANY person who wants a high quality horn at a reasonable price.
This is the only concert BBb of this grade for less than $ 8000.00, So if you are looking for a professional sounding and nice looking horn for 5k, this is the one, look no further !
the only thing I don't like about it is that in order to make a resistant case, they made it way too big, there's about 4" of foam all around making the case huge to get around with it !
I hope this helps !
I am a band director and two years ago was looking for a solid horn that wouldn't break the bank. I wanted a full-sized instrument that was not only cosmetically attractive (let's be honest, in most schools, it's a challenge to get kids motivated about something like tuba) but also have a full sound and good intonation characteristics. In talking to a colleague, he recommended a Jupiter 582 that he had purchased the previous year. I was surprised (since it wasn't that long ago that Jupiter had a relatively poor reputation amongst band directors) but decided to look into it a bit more. I found a lot of schools were buying these and liking them. In fact, two years later, I'm so happy with the Jupiter 582, we just purchased a second one. The kids fight over the thing and my band sounds better, too. Hope this helps, and THANKS to Jupiter for crafting such a fine instrument!
These are decent horns with decent sound and decent construction. For the price, i MUCH prefer the King 2341. We've always had issues with the valves and the sound was nothing special.
