everyone who looking for a GOOD soprano as a primary or doubling saxophone look no further! Jupiter 947GL is awesome + the price tag is less than half of what Selmer Paris Series ii cost (I wont even mention cost of Series iii that actually have two necks with it same as 947GL)
Sheath is very nice classic looking and preatty strong(no outside pockets) have separate slots for each neck, mouthpiece and long slot for alot of accessories.
Jupiter stated that 947GL is a Pro. Level instrument and let me tell You it for sure feels like it. The ergonomics is very good, you can tell that assembling done very precisely. Out of the box - pads will stick a little bit probably because instrument sits some time before being purchased(throw some key oil on the surface of each pad and you wont even hear them afterwards), also out of the box I noticed layer of thick clear grease on all joints of the keys(probably used as key oil alternative for long lasting) I wiped all of that off and gave it normal key oil - works smooth like butter. If you are a tenor or bari it will take you a couple days to get used to it simply because everything on soprano is so small. I was amazed how good in tune it is (especially for being a soprano - and especially not being made in France, Italy or other =)).
947GL is made in Taiwan and also the word "Taiwan" is proudly engraved on the instrument below the serial number =) (which dont really bothers me at all because it plays great!). the original mouthpiece is OK (I had to play on it for 14 days befor I got my Otto Link Super Tone Master (metal), but you will be able to play everything you need on it in all octaves no problem (its just the sound matter, I prefer metal mouthpieces)
be sure to grease the cork on the neck Very Very well before fitting mouthpiece on it first time, cork is factory new and will be a tight fit, the thing is you don't want to bend your octave key on the neck =). also instrument was adjusted perfectly out of the box.
As you can tell there is a big variety of similar priced sopranos on wwbw, but I fell in love with this one first time I looked at it.(it also have engravings on the body that I'm pretty sure Not made by hand and a beautiful metal Badge that states - Jupiter Artist - have to admit looks NICE, way better than 99% of other manufacturers today that just engrave their logo)
I am a student, majoring in Jazz Studies(Saxophone), to make long story short, I started playing Bb clarinet when I was 4, played on alto and bari saxes, end up moving on to tenor and sticking with it (my tenor is Series iii) I do my own repairs on my instruments and overhaul my mouthpieces simply because I know how to do it =).
Which is why I purchased 947GL as a doubling saxophone.
Overall - Great! hope I helped you folks that on the market for soprano.
Actually makes me curious to try 989GL Artist Tenor.
Good job Jupiter!
