Kanstul Instruments

Founder Zigmant "Zig" Kanstul gained extensive experience at some of the most respected firms in musical instrument manufacturing before his 1981 decision to start the family business that bears his name. At instrument maker F.E. Olds, Kanstul rose from apprentice to superintendent of research, development, engineering, and design. From Olds, Kanstul went on to become a vice president at King Musical Instruments, and later vice president of manufacturing at C.G. Conn.

Along with all that experience and knowledge under his belt, Kanstul was also assisted by a stroke of luck. In 1981, King closed its Benge plant in Anaheim, California, to stanch mounting business losses. Simultaneously, the United Kingdom's Boosey & Hawkes set a goal of recreating the famous Besson trumpet. Kanstul managed to snag the Boosey & Hawkes trumpet contract, then used that guarantee of orders to help finance his purchase of the King Benge factory and tools. With 14 of the most accomplished artisans laid off by Benge, Kanstul Musical Instruments got underway just a mile from Disneyland.

Kanstul now offers a full line of brass instruments from cornets to tubas, including the Kanstul 1500 Series, 900 Series, 1000 "Chicago" Series, 700 Series, marching brass, and G bugles for brass sections from symphony orchestras to drum and bugle corps. Everything Kanstul makes is manufactured in Anaheim, and they also supply parts, instruments, and services to other companies in North America and Europe. Every Kanstul horn is covered by a one-year limited warranty against manufacturing defects.

Artists who have played Kanstul instruments include Herb Alpert, Doc Severinsen, Arturo Sandoval, Tim Wendt, Alan Kaplan, session player Wayne Bergeron, and many others. You'll also have experienced the exciting sound of Kanstul instruments, if you've heard the Disneyland band or top military service bands and ensembles like the Naval Academy Drum & Bugle Corps, the U.S. Marines "Commandant's Own" Drum & Bugle Corps, Michigan State University, and University of Texas brass sections, and many more.

A longstanding Kanstul tradition is the building of instruments that no one else can. For example, when Herb Alpert dreamed up a 2-bell trumpet that could switch between open and muted sounds, it was only Kanstul that could craft the unusual horn. Kanstul's ability to combine the making of unique specialty instruments as well as production of everything from piccolos to tubas gives them a special niche in a tough market filled with larger competitors.

Yet the same hands-on management style and attention to every detail that helped build Kanstul Musical Instruments is what keeps them viable today. This allows Kanstul to compete against imports with professional-quality trumpets, cornets, flugelhorns, French horns, trombones, bugles, mouthpieces, and band accessories made in America.

Woodwind & Brasswind is proud to offer high-quality Kanstul brass band instruments and accessories for musicians from professional to beginner. All Kanstul musical instruments and accessories sold by us are backed by The Woodwind & Brasswind's 110% Price Guarantee, assuring that you won't find quality Kanstul instruments at a lower price anywhere else.
