Last December I took a 45 day trial with three different horns from wwbw. I tried Bachs and Yamahas and wasn't impressed with them, so I tried a lacquered Getzen 3051, a Schilke B1 and, and a silver plated Kanstul 1500. The Getzen I found to be even more mediocre than a Bach strad and Xeno I've played, the Schilke B1 wasn't a bad horn but it's sound often got way to bogged down in a trumpet section, esspecially in concert settings, but Kanstul was a very pleasent surprise. The sound is HUGE and it has the best response out of any other trumpet I've played before. It has such a brilliant but thick sound that it makes it perfect for concert settings, it has the capicity to really shred up top and if you want to tone it down a little bit and give a warm, rich tone, it can make very beautiful jazz passages. I actually ended up getting this horn custom made with a brushed lacquered appearance (which is absolutely gorgeous) and it actually made the sound even warmer and took off a little bit of the bite. If you want a big brilliant clear sound, go with the silver plating. If you want a sound with slightly more darker sound while still retaining fullnes and thickness in the tone, go with the lacquered. But before you think about buying it, try the horn and see if it works for you.
I have played my Kanstul 1500 B flat trumpet for several years now and have found it to be a great horn. It has a good, very focused sound, great intonation, and is very responsive over the entire range of the instrument. Once I played this horn I found it very difficuld to go back to my Bach Strad. I play on very large mouthpieces and use a lot of air but still find that it is difficult to overblow this trumpet in most situations, which has been a problem for me in the past. I find that this horn is always my number one B flat for brass quintet, concert band, small orchestras and playing along with a choral groups. I wuld recommend it to any advanced high school or college student as well as professionals who need a good horn for classical work.
