Powerful sound and a concert quality instrument

Though this is definitely a large instrument, it packs just as much of a punch. Our high school band has about 140 students and only 3 of these tubas. Though we could use as many tuba players for our concert season, we only need three tuba players to off-set the rest of the band. This was my first year playing tuba, and I can personally say that this tuba can play better than our concert tubas and though it may be large, I just think of it as a good form of exercise. If you want a horn that can play loud and as good if not better than most concert tubas, the only reason not to get this beast, is if you are not capable of carrying this 24 lb. "Bazooka" tuba as our band calls it; other than that I would recommend this to anyone who wants a good sounding, durable Tuba for either concert or marching.

A very nice well balanced contra. Big sound as well. In combination with a Helleberg mouthpiece this horn is almost perfect. Removable bell is great for repairs, and has a quick tune kicker that really helps for an instant tune to finish a chord. Bad part is that it is easier to "spread" tone on this horn compared to the 5/4 Dynasty, and doesn't provide a dominating lower/higher register. And the horn is very bell heavy. Great horn regardless.
