Keilwerth Shadow SX90R Alto SaxophonePhysical FeaturesWith a black nickel-plated body made from nickel-silver, black finger buttons and silver-plated keys, this saxophone not only has an extra-ordinary appearance, it also features a new, ergonomically adapted keywork.
The SoundThe new Keilwerth saxophone "Shadow" combines the advantages of nickel silver with those of a black nickel-plate finish. Nickel silver adapts to and conducts changing frequencies faster than other material, resulting in a very direct response, and a well centred and extremely powerful sound.
The PackageAnother important advantage is the reduced weight and the high stability. In combination with the black nickel plating, a completely new sound spectrum is created. Thus, the new Shadow saxophone offers a new sound alternative within the range of Keilwerth nickel silver saxophones. Julius Keilwerth Shadow saxophone: the top saxophone for those who are looking for something exceptional!

After playing the same old Selmer for so long, it was time for a change. I tried others but nothing really spoke to me like the Keilwerth. The altissimo range, once thought improbable by myself, was suddenly posible.(Feels great, too!) The projection and timbre is incredible with this sax. Some have told me it's a little too loud. The key layout is very comfortable, especially the adjustable palm keys. Makes playing so much more enjoyable again. Overall, it's a beautiful saxophone that sounds as good, if not better, than it looks. You have to play it to believe it.
Before I purchased this horn, I was playing on a used Conn24M. I had before put my somewhat airy tone down to a bad embouchure or something along those lines. But after trying more saxes I realized this was not the case. I tried several other horns including Selmers, Yamahas, and Stephenhausers, but found this horn to be the best by leaps and bounds. In addition to being beautiful, its sound is extremely full, and can be dark and full, or bright and edgy. I consider it to be one of the best horns on the market.
I have the Keilwerth Shadow Alto, and I have a Selmer Paris. Both are Great to me, but my Shadow stands out. It not only looks great, but it sounds great. The picture on this web site is not doing justice to the Shadow Horns. Look at the Keilwerth Web Site, then buy your Horns from Woodwind & Brasswind, they are great too.
I OWN THIS KELIWERTH SHADOW ALTO SAX. IT HAS WONDERFUL SOUND QUALITY IN HIGH AND LOW RANGE NOTES. NO EFFORT NEEDED FOR HIGH AND LOW RANGE NOTES. IT'S A WONDERFUL SOLO INSTRUMENT DURING ANY CONCERT OR COMPETITION BECAUSE OF ITS SOUND PROJECTORY AND THE WAY IT JUST STANDS OUT FROM ALL THE REST. THIS SAX HAS A REALLY COMFORTABLE FEEL TO IT THAN ANY OTHER SAX I HAVE TRIED. I'VE TRIED SELMERS AND THIS SAX JUST OUT DOES IT WITH HANDS DOWN. I THINK ITS ONE OF THE BEST PRO INSTRUMENTS OUT THERE. BUT BE CAREFUL IF YOU DO BUY THIS BECAUSE THE BODY IS NICKEL (VERY FRAGILE) AND IT WILL BEND AND SCRATCH EASILY IF DROPPED OR BUMPPED HARD ENOUGH AGAINST SOMETHING. NOT RECOMMENDED FOR BEGINNER MUSICIANS.
I purchased this saxophone in January of 2005, and I must say, It's been everything i've ever dreamed of. The velvet dark tone i get from it is wonderful, my sound stands out in a group of saxes, and my solos are even more defined. This is an alto i'm keeping for many years down the road. it's a tad bit heavy, but is not noticeable with the right neckstrap. I've grown into this horn, and will continue to do so down the road.
