The Testarossa of Trombones

By

King trombones are just that, "King" of the pack. Superb action, the tones ring true, and you feel as if you are "right there" riding on top of your tone ... a perfect bone sound, not too dark, and not too bright unless you *want* it to be. Like another poster, I was told that I was too bright in the Symphonic Band when playing one of these (so I bought a 3B for that), but in Jazz Band it was spot on the best horn for the job. I played lead for 3 years of 4 at the University, over players who were technically superior to me, and it was at least in part because they couldn't match my jazz tone with their symphony-and-government-approved Conn 88H's. Note that, at least on older models, this horn does *not* have a spring loaded slide receiver. You'd better have your ears on when playing 1st position, 'cause you can't sharp it. The horn has a great look to it, and as I mentioned, it's excellent craftsmanship. You'll be shopping around for the best repair guys 'cause you won't want just *anyone* working on your King.

WOW!

This horn is fantastic! I usually play on a Bach Trigger horn for all of my concert work. This trombone however is astounding in every way. It has an amazingly smooth slide, and is very light. It has a sound quality that is hard to beat, especially in jazz soloing, and in a jazz ensemble. All in all I would recommend this horn to anyone, from the oldest player, to a student who is just beginning to get serious about playing trombone.

A Perfect Lead Horn for Jazz

By

I've been playing this horn since 1986. I bought it brand new and itÆs the only straight tenor I've ever used for jazz. The horn is strong and sturdy. It is built very well. It has a very beautiful and clear sound. Throughout my career as a lead and solo trombonist, I have been told by conductors that I needed to back off a little because I was out-blowing the t-bone section and the lead trumpet. This horn is easy to blow and has a lot of power in reserve. I originally used the King 12C mouthpiece that came with the horn but now use a Schilke 47C. I highly recommend this horn.

(This) is one of the best jazz trombones I have ever used. It projects very well and accents and natural lip slurs are amazing on it.
