I've been using LaVoz reeds on all my horns, they are fairly consistent (but I am constantly shaving & cutting as time goes on, which I do with any reed), and to my ears, they, as Dave Sanborn says, "sing" and "have heart".... With all the new reeds coming out all the time, one can go nuts trying them out, matching them with all the ligatures available, and mouthpieces, so if you find one you like, keep it, and work on your playing... Oh, and while these are clarinet reeds, I've been using them on my soprano & Saxello for 30+ years.
Very good reads my music teacher recommended them and I just love them.
First off, this reed is absolutely worth the price. I purchased a box of medium sized reeds and they give me a beautiful, earthy wooden tone in the lower register. However, above the throat tones, pretty much from B natural on upwards, I really don't like the tone. It's a little too dark for my taste in the upper register, but aside from that I really dig this reed. Prior to this, I was playing on a traditional Vandoren that I just shaved down to my liking, but that reed played bright from low E all the way through, so I really like the La Voz reeds. I highly recommend them!
Out of all the reeds I have tried and my teacher has tried, we have both found these reeds to live up to their name. I get rich, classy tone from these reeds. Perfect for jazz and also performs well for all other types of music. They're reasonably priced and last a long while.
I play in many different bands and orchestras, first chair Bb clarinetist, and am amazed with the the quality and overall performance of the La Voz reed. I use a med on a Rovner ligature, and the sound is amazing. It allows me to preform beautifully and accurately, and gives great intonation. I think these reeds are great for the intermediate or advanced beginner. For harder pieces, however, i would suggest a vandoren v12.
