I've played every reed on the market, and with my experience I've found LaVoz to be best for playing the music I play. I have great control with this reed. This also depends on the mouthpiece you use which is very important. I started out with a metal Otto Link 7* for 35-40yrs and using hard reeds. As you get older in life you have to adjust with the strength of reed and mouthpiece. I now use a Phil Barone 7* rubber with LaVoz med/soft reeds. The sound I get with this combination is just great and it is as close to a Stan Getz sound as I could get.

I have been using Lavoz jazz cut medium reeds for the past 10 years, but I can't find them any more so I tried these, very disappointed, the reed material seems to be very porous and absorbs most of the flexability and tone response. I guess I will be looking for another brand.

Great reed for Otto Link NY

Comments about La Voz Tenor Saxophone Reeds:

I've found that the mouthpiece is just as critical as the reed. It's a partnership that either works or doesn't. I used to use a metal Dukoff D9 mouthpiece with a Vandoren Jazz reed. It took a while to find that combination, but for me it was perfect. Now that I switched to an Otto Link NY 6*, the Vandoren Jazz reed just doesn't work anymore. I've found that the La Voz reed, so far, is perfect. The La Voz and the Otto Link NY work together to give me a complex, multi-faceted sound that keeps me exploring. Love it!

Consistent and Responsive

Comments about La Voz Tenor Saxophone Reeds:

Free-blowing in all registers; switched over from Vandoren V16s and gives me that extra oomph and response when needed. Also more economical with these coming in boxes of 10, instead of paying almost $4 a reed for Vandoren.

Great reeds, but have had consistency problems lately

Comments about La Voz Tenor Saxophone Reeds:

I have been playing La Voz reeds on Tenor exclusively for around 15 years now and have loved them. I play a Medium Hard reed with a Yanagisawa mouthpiece and it gives me a good edgy tone for the funk/rock/blues music that I play and plenty of flexibility to bend notes. The reeds last a good while too. However, the last two boxes that purchased were straight up bad, with the majority of the reeds not being usable (to produce good sound). Some reeds were even visibly bad (skin from the bamboo continuing too far towards the tip) or didn't seem to be cut/filed evenly. Maybe the two boxes I bought were from the same fluke lot of bad reeds (purchased from the same store, although approximately a month apart), but I have to guess that these reeds now have quality control issues. I now am having to switch brands for the first time in my life. But that said, if the consistency issues are dealt with, these are great reeds.

Great, but...

Comments about La Voz Tenor Saxophone Reeds:

I've used LaVoz consistently, but in the last 15 years or so, been using Hemke as well (& Rico plasticovers for summer outdoor gigs), however, I keep coming back to LaVoz... As David Sanborn says, these reeds "have heart", and in my opinion, "sing" & with much "warmth". Never have liked Vandoren, regular are too stiff, Java just never did anything for me, and Rico was ok, but not anything special. Yes, they are inconsistent, so I often end up shaving & cutting most of them, especially as I'm playing them, gotta keep adjusting, trying to maintain that balance of ease of blowing, along with preventing the tip from flaccidity. And while I like Hemke, they are more consistent, & seem to wear out more slowly; I just keep coming back to LaVoz. As for mouthpieces, I've mainly used metal Bergs (currently 130/1 & gold Bari 8* tenor, 120/3 & Couf 10 alto, & Vandoren V25 or 35 on soprano), but also some hard rubber Lakey, Rico Royal, Meyer, etc.

Great Jazz reed!

Comments about La Voz Tenor Saxophone Reeds:

For a number of years I have been searching for just the right reed to play Jazz with and at long last I found La Voz to be a fantastic match. La Voz reeds produce a pretty dark tone and I have found that they help produce a quality tone on the higher notes. They also make that "back-alley" sub tone sound fairly easy to play (if you're into that). I don't play much classical saxophone, so I don't know how well La Voz performs in the classical area.

Best reed for me

By

Comments about La Voz Tenor Saxophone Reeds:

Great response and the resistance I've been looking for. I've switched over to a Jody Jazz DV 7 tenor and also alto mp. And with a medium LaVoz, my setup is clicking very well. The ligature matters to some point as well, but these reeds really feel right for me compared to the various Vandorens and Rico Royals. I found that the traditional Vandoren feels too oppressive, while the V16, ZZ, etc... are better for me, but I didn't get the balance I wanted.
