Don't be fooled by the "Soloist" name, the Larsen Soloist A and D are excellent strings for not just solo work but also chamber music and orchestral playing. All the way up the fingerboard into the highest positions, the tone stays warm and rich, and never sounds like a violin. Plenty of power for the loudest dynamics, responsive control in the softest dynamics. Larsens are my first choice A and D for both of my own cellos, because they keep the characteristic cello warmth and richness throughout the range. For my students, I suggest Larsen Soloist A and D for cellos that have mainstream-to-bright tone quality. For cellos whose natural tone is more toward the dark or thick extreme, I would instead suggest Jargar A and D for clarity and focus, or Prim A and D for added brilliance. Any of the Spirocore C and G strings pair well with the Larsen A and D - more details in my review on the Spirocore page.
Having played cello for 50 years I am always looking for the best strings and in my opinion, I believe the Larsen Strings are some of the best. They stand up to hard use, respond well and sound good when the string is played open. I use the A and D strings because of the richness that they produced. I do solo and esemble playing I like the tone they produce. Highly recommend but they are a little pricey but worth it.
