History and Legacy of Leblanc, Inc

Musical instrument manufacturer Leblanc, Inc., traces its roots all the way back to 18th century France. Georges Leblanc who in 1904 acquired Noblet, a company that had started making musical instruments in 1750, founded French company G. Leblanc Cie. in the late 19th century.

In 1946, Georges' son Leon Leblanc and Vito Pascucci, a native of Kenosha Wisconsin, started the G. Leblanc Corporation in Kenosha in order to import French-made woodwind instruments from G. Leblanc Cie. Pascucci had met the Leblanc family while serving with the U.S. Army in France during World War II.

The two men oversaw the growth of their company in the postwar years as the baby boom created increased demand for quality musical instruments. Originally dealing in Leblanc clarinets, a series of acquisitions helped the company grow and expand its product line: In 1964 Leblanc acquired the Frank Holton Company (makers of larger instrumentsI including French horns, trombones, and euphoniums); the Bublitz Case Company was acquired in 1966; mouthpiece manufacturer the Woodwind Company was purchased in 1968; and the acquisition of the Martin Band Instrument Company in 1971 (makers of the famous Martin Committee Trumpet) put more brass instruments as well as saxophones under the Leblanc roof. Since 1981 Leblanc has also been the exclusive distributor of Yanagisawa saxophones in the U.S. and Canada. In 1989 American Leblanc acquired a major interest in France's G. Leblanc Cie., taking over management until completing acquisition of the venerable firm in 1993.

In 2003, upon the death of his father Vito's son Leon Pascucci took over management of Leblanc bringing a new era of innovation and vigorous leadership. In 2004, Leblanc was sold to the Conn-Selmer division of Steinway and Sons.

Leblanc has always been a key supporter of school music programs in the United States and was the first wind instrument manufacturer with a music educator on its staff. The company improved the quality of instruments for beginning students and its efforts to bring order to school music instrument sales eventually led to the founding of the National Association of School Music Dealers.

Today Leblanc offers a wide selection of brass and woodwind instruments, and throughout its history the company has been guided by principles laid down by Georges Leblanc: integrity, musicianship, and creativity. Georges was a serious student of acoustics and scientific measurement. His son Leon, a gifted clarinetist, carried this interest even further, urging his craftsmen to measure carefully saying, "Music is an art, but it is still governed by the laws of science."

This emphasis on precision led to Leblanc instruments being more consistent, easier to play, and mechanically innovative. For example, Leblanc was the first to manufacture clarinets with interchangeable keys making their instruments easier to play in tune whether you're a professional musician or a beginner.

Still operating on the principles laid out by its founders, Leblanc melds mechanical efficiency and precision to artistic inspiration in the production of fine woodwind and brass instruments for your musical expression.

The Woodwind & Brasswind is proud to offer high-quality Leblanc products for musicians from professional to beginner. Leblanc clarinets are backed by The Woodwind & Brasswind's 110% Price Guarantee, assuring that you won't find quality Leblanc products for musicians at a lower price anywhere else.
