Founded in 1987 by Fred Lebayle, Lebayle mouthpieces are in demand among today’s top professionals including artists like: Chris Potter, Wayne Shorter, Brandofrd Marsalis, Ron Blake, Candy Dulfer, Ravi Coltrane, Greg Osby and many many more. Originally designed to emulate Charlie Parker’s saxophone sound, Lebayle’s mouthpieces were individually produced by hand one at a time in his workshop. This tradition continues today with each individual mouthpieces receiving both the personal attention of a master craftsman and the use of the very highest quality hard rubber or metal materials. Lebayle mouthpieces are available for the entire family of saxophones including Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Baritone.
Within the lineup there are 7 unique styles, ranging from bright to dark. The two most popular models, the Studio and Jazz mouthpieces are also available in Metal, Hard Rubber or Wood materials giving the player the ultimate freedom to individually craft their tone. Players looking for a mouthpiece that will cut within a loud band mix will love the STUDIO mouthpiece, and find it perfect for jazz rock, smooth jazz and funk/R&B music. For players who need a medium-warm sound that can get edgy when pushed will enjoy the JAZZ mouthpiece – and find it perfect for any type of straight-ahead jazz or big band use. Each mouthpiece is available in a wide variety of tip openings with a similar numbering system using numbers and stars similar to many other mouthpieces. For example a Lebayle 7* mouthpiece has a 105mm tip opening – a similar tip opening as a 7* mouthpieces from other major mouthpiece brands.
