I don't know if I like the reed or not because I must have selected the wrong strength. I currently use a 2 1/2 Fibracell, so ordered the same strength in Legere. I cannot get a decent sound from this strength. This item cannot be returned even if it's a possible manufacturing defect so be sure of the strength you need
I like the way these reeds sound. They're very playable and easy to blow. My problem is that the ones I've used have been somewhat fragile in comparison to other synthetic bass clarinet reeds. I've found cracks at the tip without any explainable cause. One even cracked in the middle right in my mouth!
I have been playing cane reeds since highschool and always had a dim view of synthetic. But, oh how technology has changed. I grew tired of always searching for the best reed in the box and wondering if it would play the same from day-to-day. I tried my first Legere a month ago and was immediately pleased. It had the same rich sound and response as cane. No breaking in, just plug and play. No chirps from warping, never too dry, never too wet. They can be washed. It is consistent day after day. I found the strengths to be very similar to Vandoren. I use a 3.5 on a Selmer C* mouthpiece. Playing difficult music is less stressful knowing you have a dependable reed.
This is a good swab. The fabric picks up a lot of the moisture that other swabs don't; however, not being double ended makes it more prone to getting stuck in the upper joint if you aren't careful.
Firstly, this is my first time buying a Legere and I was surprised by the ease of sound. I bought a strength 3 reed, and it is a little too hard for me. ** If you normally play on a 3, pick a 2.75 or 2.5 strength reed if you are not comfortable with creating an over-blown sound. ** These reeds are great for marching band, and practice, but I noticed that I do get a slight airy sound with this reed. Overall a great, ready to use reed.
