A Great Addition to your Contra Kit

Legere contrabass clarinet reeds fit Leblanc contra alto, Leblanc contrabass, and Selmer Paris contrabass clarinet mouthpieces. With some slight adjustment to my setup (Leblanc 350 contra alto paperclip, Fobes "San Francisco" mouthpiece, Rovner dark ligature), and after an approximately 1 hour break-in period, Legere reeds give me tone color and response quite similar to what I expect from Vandoren reeds, to wit: robust chalumeau, in-tune break, a very sweet, clarinet-like clarino, and easy speaking altissimo. I will continue to use Vandorens for that extra percentage I want in performances -- but instead of buying 4 boxes of Vandies per season (more than $100), I'll buy one box, and a couple of Legeres for rehearsals and practice. That'll cut my reed expenditure by 2/3. RECOMMENDED.
