Why Woodwind & Brasswind ?

The Lomax Chicago Bb clarinet mouthpiece can trace it's ancestry back to the legendary Henrie Chedeville of France and designed to duplicate the "sound" and "feel" of the mouthpieces made by Frank Kaspar of Chicago, in the 50s and 60s. Like those historic pieces, the Lomax Chicago is extremely free blowing and flexible yet possesses a beautiful sweet and centered tone.

A pretty good piece

I auditioned this piece against a Vandoren B45, Hite D, and Grabner CMZ. I ended up going with the Grabner, though it was a tough call. The Vandoren and Hite sounded amateurish by comparison with the other two. The Grabner sounded just a bit darker, especially on the low notes, which I like. It did this without sacrificing any projection. The Lomax was a bit harder to get used to, and I found I'd have to change up my embochure a bit to get it to sound like I wanted to sound. Still, the Lomax was a very good piece. Plenty of volume without much edge.
