The Prokeys has impressed me within the first week of owning it. The action and feel of the keys is spot-on to an actual piano. The different programs including the Rhodes, Hammond B-3 and Wurlitzer are extrememly pleasing to the ear. The likeness is surreal to the point where the listener (and player) may not know at all that the Prokeys are not the real thing. It takes the correct source to produce the sounds of the Prokeys properly, either using the 1/4"; headphones jack or a quality amplifier. I, however, found a slightly irritating digital effect on the Grand Piano, only when the volume is 90%. There's a resounding hiss;, from the reverb, underlying through a sustained chord, but easily dismissed with rapid changes or outside instrument influence. The overall weight is a little disappointing, but most stage pianos are quite heavy. The Prokeys also is a bit cumbersome, pertaining to myself as a travelling musician. M-Audio is mostly known for midi-controllers when thinking of their keyboard fleet, and this fact alone made me take a second look at this stage piano. I believe it is their first attempt at creating a piano that does not require a separate drive source, such as a computer or synth. They have succeeded in doing so with flying colors. But with this is mind, they have incorporated the Prokeys to also be ready for midi-production and computer assistance. With several ports, including a USB out, I am excited to tap into this aspect of the Prokeys. Overall, the quality of the sound, the reasonably cheaper price, and the easy maneuverability through the operations of the Prokeys far outweighs the cons of this spectacular instrument.
