With this collection, you can effectively capture virtualy any sound source you are likely to encounter.MXL-840: It has a 22mm capsule and a fixed cardioid pickup pattern. It is excellent for drum overheads, acoustic guitar, and anything with high end detail.MXL-860: This is equipped with an aluminum ribbon transducer which by nature is a bidirectional (figure-8) pickup pattern. A figure-8 pattern will pick up sounds from the front and back sides of the microphone with equal sensitivity while maintaining a large amount of rejection 90° off access.
