OVERVIEW

This unassuming little box shovels out enough low frequencies to scare a blue whale.

The MXR Blue Box takes your guitar signal, fuzzes it up, then duplicates it 2 octaves down. You control the output and the mix between the dry signal and the effect. Using it 100% wet is quite an experience, but more recognizable sounds appear as you dial in more dry signal. The Blue Box is known for having a chaotic personality that can make each session a totally unique experience!

Here are just some of the people who are using this box: John 5 - Rob Zombie; Mick Thompson - Slipknot; Munky - Korn; Jimmy Page; Tim Skold - Marilyn Manson; Jay Baumgardner - Producer Zakk Wylde; Geordie White - A Perfect Circle.

FEATURES
  • Power: Single 9 volt battery or Dunlop ECB-003 AC adapter
  • Controls: Footswitch toggles effect on/bypass (red LED indicates on)
  • Output knob sets total output gain

Takes some getting used to.

Comments about MXR M-103 Blue Box:

This thing really surprised me. It took some time to figure out and I was discouraged at first but kept at it to learn some of its tendencies. Once I figured it out it became too cool to turn off. Watch out for high frequencies and overtones already in your signal, high output pickups (use neck if you have to) and control your picking. Too much "junk" in your signal makes this thing go nuts on you. Oh and the knobs actually do something on this! You really have to work to get this pedal to sound right and even then, it's just funky. User beware..blend knob down, output high and a loud amp will cause some stomach discomfort.

Crazy-Cool Effects Pedal!

Comments about MXR M-103 Blue Box:

The MXR M-103 Blue Box is a combination octaver/distortion pedal, with a bit of pitch modulation thrown in for extra insanity. When played without other effects, it sounds like an Atari 2600 on a rampage! Combined with a slow and deep chorus and a bit more rock distortion, you can get cool sounds similar to '70s rock or even a bit like '60s psychedelic. This is not a polyphonic pedal, so chording with this box doesn't work too well. Use single notes for best results; and use chorus, delay, or harmonizer pedals later in the effects chain to flesh out your sound. I've also tried MXR and DigiTech phasers with the Blue Box, with fun and interesting results! Keep the Blend knob around the 10 or 11 o'clock position for less randomness and a bit more control over your sound. The Blue Box is built tough, and is a lot of fun to use! This pedal is a great value; and provides unique sounds for rock, metal, industrial, punk, alternative, and experimental music!
