Manuel Rodriguez Model D Nylon-String Acoustic Guitar - Vintage FinishThe tone, resonance, and beauty of any fine guitar is all dependent upon the wood from which it is made and the Rodriguez Model D Acoustic Guitar is a perfect example with a solid Canadian cedar top, Indian rosewood back and sides, Honduras cedar neck, and an ebony fingerboard. The neck of this beautiful nylon-string guitar is reinforced with two ebony strips on the underside of the fingerboard that give rigidity and eliminate movement caused by aging. Appointments include stained Indian rosewood binding, gold-plated tuning machines, wood mosaic soundhole rosette, and unique vintage matte finish. Rodriguez guitars are known for their high level of craftsmanship and purity of tone. Rodriguez uses only the finest tonewoods and handforms each guitar to precise tolerances. There is no detail too minor to merit attention in the creation of these handsome instruments. Manual Rodriguez has created distinctive guitars for the world's preeminent artists. Each of these fine Spanish acoustic guitars is as unique and individual as the musician who plays it.

The bad news firsT: after less than 5 hours of playing, one of the tuning gears worked its way loose. The low E string gear and the screw holding it literally fell off the guitar. No amount of tinkering could get the gear reinstalled. It's as if it never properly fit; perhaps the screw or the metal sleeve around it are the wrong size, or machined poorly. The not-so fine print in Rodriguez warranty says that the tuning machines are not warrantied. The gear and knob on the D string have tiny tool marks marring the gold finish. The winding cylinder on that useless E string has a tool mark on it. Somebody struggled to install these tuning machines, but could not take a hint. Even if Rodrigues warrantied the tuning machines, he requires that the guitar be shipped to Spain for warranty work. I don't think so. I'm searching my town for a luthier who can replace the tuning machines. Or I might order some from StewMac and have a crack at it myself. It's depressing. The good news: The guitar sounds good, very warm and resonant. Imagine how good it will sound when it has 6 strings again! The matte finish is unusual, but oddly pleasing to the eye. And luthiers note: M. Rodriguez might be a new source of work for you. Rodriguez is a joinery guy, not a moving parts guy. The more he sells, the more your phones will ring. A call to WWBW customer help line was not helpful. The csr told me they work on brass and reeds, but not the guitars they sell.
