I have just started using Marca#2 on a Rico Graftonite Tenor #A5(fabulous mouthpiece for the money, seriously!). I couldn't believe the difference in tone against all the other reeds I have tried. The Marcas have a big, fat, warm tone and great response from bottom Bb to F#. My feeling is that they are probably not suited to a slightly stuffy piece like the Link Tone Edge #7, which I have and not liked that much. I would urge anybody looking for my type of sound to at least give them a go!
I HAVE USED MARCA REEDS FOR QUITE SOME TIME, AND FIND THEM TO BE A GREAT GREED TO USE, NOW I DO LONG TONES ALOT, AND ONCE YOU BREAK THE REED IN, IT IS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SOUNDINGWITH GREAT RESPONSE, JUST A GREAT REED. I LOOK LOVE THAT BIG RICH FAT DARK TONE AND THAT'S WHAT I GET WITH MARCA REEDS.
I've been using Vandoran Reeds for pretty much 10 years. V16 then later switching to ZZ. I don't know if the quality of Vandoran reeds has gotten worse or if they just didnt work for me anymore. What I do know is the last year I used Vandoran reeds was not fun. Most of the reeds wouldn't play, and when I found one that did play it would last a week tops. I finally couldn't deal anymore and since I used Marca on Clarinet decided to try Marca on my tenor. I use an old Meyer NY #7 HR on a Buescher Aristrocrat, and lemme tell you switching to Marca #3.5 was litterally the best thing I've done for myself as a saxophonist all year. The reeds were consistant. I would usually find 4 playable reeds per box. The reeds are very dark and warm but capable of producing a brighter sound when needed. The reeds are more reliable, I don't have to worry so much that my reed will screw up on the gig. A single reed will usually last me about 2-3 weeks; which is 2-3 times longer then Vandoran ZZ was lasting for me. Overall Exellent
