I was very frustrated when I started learning the oboe because I had a lot of trouble with reeds, and I tried many different brands. I bought Marlin Lesher out of desperation, but serendipitously, because I liked the rainbow threads, and I will never use another brand. They break in easily, last a long time, sound great (according to my teacher - when I'm playing well!), and are very consistent with their quality control. I don't get some that are drastically more closed up than others. I was even able to move up to a harder reed after a short time. I love these reeds!
