I played this tuba at Woodwind & Brasswind. I could not believe the sound. It was fantastic. I am planning on buying the Fafner before years end. It's all the tuba I'll ever need. The staff at WW&BW are great people to do business with they answered all my questions and let me play quite a few tubas. For me it's going to be a good day to take home a new tuba.
I bought one of these that was made in 1970. It is the best Tuba i have ever played. When i got it, it had a little red rot problem in the lead pipe; but that was a minor problem. I got the lead pipe replaced for $100, and it looks like its only 10 years old at the most!
After a few phone calls and as many emails, my salesperson discussed my situation with the technical directors at WWBW and came up with an answer for my intonation issues. The horn was probably shipped with the wrong tuning slide. They worked to find the correct slide, but couldn't locate one in the US. So they contacted Meinl Weston in Germany, and within 60 days I had the new slide at my door. The Fafner now plays incredible. Thanks to Andrew and the guys at WWBW for working with me until we had it right!
