I took a chance when ordering this instrument as I had very little knowledge about the company and the quality of its instruments. I had only consulted my friend and fellow eupher about whether or not the Meinl Weston 451 would be a good investment, and after seeing that the price was right I decided to chance it. Do I regret my decision? Heck no! This is a BEAUTIFUL instrument. As with most other euphoniums I've experienced, it does have a few tuning issues (especially in the upper partials), however it is nothing that can't be dealt with. It is a slightly bigger/heavier instrument, so for smaller people like me it may be a little difficult if you plan on standing while performing. The sound is gorgeous; quite dark and very rich and plays wonderfully in all ranges (especially low). The only thing I don't like is the mouthpiece it came with - it's just not the one for me. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this instrument and would not trade it for any other in the world!
This horn is amazing! I took a chance at buying it, only being a freshman and wanting to do Euphonium as a career. This horn is so beautiful in tone and richness, and AMAZING range. All I know is, I'll definatly be using Mienl Weston for a LONG time.
This is definitely one of the best euphoniums on the market. Because it is German, it is slightly sharp tuned to around 442. Other then that, it's utterly amazing bore is 590 - way bigger than any other horn, giving you a room filling sound. Warm and deep in all registers high and low.
