Miraphone 1258A Series Compensating EuphoniumIn side-by-side comparisons with the "big name" instruments, the Miraphone 1258A holds its own very nicely. Many artists prefer the slightly darker sound than that of the "big boys". The large, dark sound is easily produced with this instrument and it is very "user friendly".

Principal soloist in British Brass Bands. The 1258as valves required just a bit of handlapping as the valves broke in. I also upgraded to stiffer valve springs for quicker valve action. With the largest bore of ANY pro horn, and coupled with a Griego 5 Deco mouthpiece, i have excellent response for the entire range. My preference of a little brighter sound in this horn is exceptionally suited to solo work, yet blends in ensamble phrases.
I traveled to South Bend with the intention of purchasing a different horn. I tried nearly a dozen horns, and did a closed-eye test with an observer between five: The Yamaha 642, Besson 967, Meinl-Weston 751, Miraphone 5050 and the Miraphone 1258A. This Miraphone 1258A was the clear winner. Intonation was the best of all the horns tested, notes spoke quickly and clearly, valve action was excellent, and I just could not find any major faults with this horn! My testing was very convincing, so I purchased the 1258 and am enjoying it thoroughly.
