Miraphone 187 Series 4 Valve 4/4 BBb TubaThis tuba has been one of the favorite of bands and individuals for over 50 years. This like the Pro 186 except the taper on the conical section grows faster, is larger and it gives it a bigger, fuller and darker sound similar to that of a Kaiser tuba. Now with improved linkage and intonation, it is one of the best, still. Heavier brass and valves make it one of the best tubas on the market for the money invested. Miraphone, quality throughout the line of instruments.

I am a first year teacher. I found this tuba gathering dust, with its lead pipe bent and cracked, after some one years ago had dropped it on the mouthpiece. I had no repair budget either, so with great hesitancy I decided to try the repair myself. I managed to straighten the lead pipe out again, and soldered over the crack. I'm so glad I put the work into this instrument, because it is amazing! My tuba player loves it, and I'm using it in a fundraiseing recital in a few weeks. There is barely any back pressure of air when blowing into it, so be prepared to need deep breaths. The version of this that I have has a detatchable forward facing bell, but that is the only difference that I see in the picture/description.
If you have played the BB? Miraphone 186, then you know its strengths(Beautiful and warm sound, consistency in all registers). The only problem I see with the BB? Miraphone 186 is that it is very hard to get a HUGE sound out of it. The BB? Miraphone 187 is the same model as the 186, but with a larger bell and bottom bow, but identical valve section. It really feels like a larger horn. If you are looking for a large BB? tuba that is worth its price that packs a little more punch than the 186, than this is the way to go.
I love this tuba. It has a huge sound and is rather in tune for a tuba. It takes a lot of air, so new players beware. I feel this tuba is worth every penny.
I recently purchased a new Miraphone 187 from Woodwind & Brasswind and I love it. It is a robust, dark, sounding horn with great intonation. It has bigger and wider branches than a 186 with a more open wrap. I truly love the comfort, ergonomics, and sturdy build of my horn. I would definitely purchase another Miraphone tuba without blinking. For the money, I would say that you cannot go wrong with Miraphone's products or this horn in particular. Miraphone has a long track record, high quality manufacturing standards, and quick access to parts when/if they are needed. As with most tubas, if it is well taken care of, it should last more than a lifetime. Mr. Roger Lewis and Mr. Mark Barton very respected tubists whom I both personally know, recommended this horn to me. When you are selecting a horn, I recommend consulting with your teacher first, see what you can afford, and try as many as you can to see what fits you best for your overall playing style. Whether you play b-flat, c, f or all of them, you still will not go wrong with a Miraphone.
