OVERVIEW

Fantastic orchestral tuba.

With the introduction of the 188 series, Miraphone expanded on their already successful formula and improved the bell tapers and the valve action to get a little more sound out of the horn. This horn has a beautiful sound and a striking finish as well. At home in orchestra, band or as a solo instrument, you will love the sound and feel of this horn.

Great Horn!

Comments about Miraphone 188-5U Series 5-Valve 4/4 CC Tuba:

I have a Mirafone, so mine is a little older. But I have played a 2005 model and it was almost as good. It was a little more restricted, but it was still super accurate on the low register but the high range above the F above middle C is a little hairy, but that's probably just me. I suggest this horn to anybody it's got accurate intonation, super fast valves, and it sounds great.

The 188

Comments about Miraphone 188-5U Series 5-Valve 4/4 CC Tuba:

This tuba is an amazing horn. The wrap on this particular tuba makes for a free blowing low register, and a warm, open, upper register. The blend on this instrument is perfect for small chamber groups and (with a little more air support) perfect for the larger Wind Ensemble or Brass Band as well. The intonation tendencies are pretty good as well, usually the upper E above middle C can be cause for some headache, but nothing a little upper register work can't iron out. This tuba is one of best on the market today!

Comments about Miraphone 188-5U Series 5-Valve 4/4 CC Tuba:

I have had this horn for a couple of months now and I am impressed. I use it wind ensemble, orchestra, and even quintet with success. The first thing I noticed is how well this horn is built. It is a beautiful horn and it sounds and projects very well. The only problem is that my fifth valve clicks really loudly, but some new corks should fix that! A great example of a German built horn.

Comments about Miraphone 188-5U Series 5-Valve 4/4 CC Tuba:

I bought this tuba around two months ago and I absolutely love it. When they say, "the 186 on steroids" they mean it! The bell and bottom bow size is what gives this tuba its character, and it has character to spare! The sound of this horn stands out because it can blend with a small ensemble or full orchestra. The 188 is an amazing all around horn and is sure to pay itself off. The 188 offers more then enough to justify the price. Sure, the 186 is cheaper but it's just not at quite the same level as the 188. I highly recommend this Tuba.
