Mitchell Lurie

One of the finest clarinetists of the 20th century, Mitchell Lurie had a lengthy career in classical music. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Lurie's gift at the clarinet led him to become the principal clarinetist for the Pittsburgh Symphony and later the Chicago Symphony. After many years of professional orchestra playing, Lurie moved to Los Angeles, CA where he worked primarily as a clarinetist for film studios. His music can be found in countless film scores. A chamber musician, Lurie also played with the Budapest String Quartet and the Muir String Quartet. In his later years, he taught at The University of Southern California as well as the Music Academy of the West.
