Mitchell Lurie clarinet reeds are ideal for the advancing student who desires a rich, dark tone. These reeds can enhance the instrument's voice and enable an amateur musician to sound more like a professional.
One of the finest clarinetists of the 20th century, Mitchell Lurie had a lengthy career in classical music. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Lurie's gift at the clarinet led him to become the principal clarinetist for the Pittsburgh Symphony and later the Chicago Symphony. After many years of professional orchestra playing, Lurie moved to Los Angeles, CA where he worked primarily as a clarinetist for film studios. His music can be found in countless film scores. A chamber musician, Lurie also played with the Budapest String Quartet and the Muir String Quartet. In his later years, he taught at The University of Southern California as well as the Music Academy of the West.
This extensive knowledge about music and expertise as a musician is all wrapped up in Mitchell Lurie's clarinet reeds. These wonderful reeds are richly infused with Lurie's skill and technique. These quality reeds meet the specifications that Lurie himself desires from a clarinet reed. The Bb Clarinet Reeds from The Woodwind and Brasswind are formed from premium grade cane. A color video inspection is used to effectively and thoroughly sort the canes. The canes then undergo optical laser measurements to precisely and consistently form their shape. The Bb Clarinet Reeds have a thinner tip and are unfiled which causes them to contribute towards a deeper, darker tone. The Premium Bb Clarinet Reeds are best for advancing students and professional musicians. They are highly responsive with a thick spine producing a lovely, warm sound. Mitchell Lurie reeds are available in strengths ranging from 1.5 to 5.0 with 1/2 strength intervals.
