Used Morgan

Ralph Morgan fell in love with the saxophone at 12 years old. The son of a chief woodwind designer at The Conn Company, Morgan's admiration for instruments went beyond playing them. He grew up with a strong understanding of how saxophones and other instruments worked. Morgan himself worked for The Selmer Company for years and developed many of their student and intermediate instruments. In the 1980s, Morgan began his own mouthpiece company out of a desire to start a resurgence of the handcrafted mouthpieces of the 1930s to 1960s. His patient manufacturing process resulted in exceptional quality mouthpieces.

Morgan mouthpieces are made from a unique rubber formula drawn from the finest grade European ebonite. The rubber has no synthetic additives and is very comparable to the substances used to create the classic mouthpieces on which Morgan based his designs. He also designed the molds for the mouthpieces himself. Rubber is pressure injected into these molds. Once taken out, the mouthpieces undergo ten or more heating and cooling procedures before being hand-faced and finished by exceptional craftsmen.

This mouthpiece possesses a round chamber with a smooth rollover baffle and an S-curved roof. The Modern Vintage Model Soprano Saxophone Mouthpiece has an increased chamber volume which contributes to a traditional tonal quality. Morgan also makes mouthpieces for the clarinet such as the Classical Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece.
