A single shoulder strap is an improvement over a neck strap in my opinion (made one, used it for a few years), but this is even better, because it distributes the weight over both shoulders. I use it for tenor. Eliminates neck fatigue, and I would say probably improves my posture and the ability to fill up my lungs and project as well. The only caveat is it doesn't work well with alto sax (horn hangs too low), which is a nuisance if one wants to switch horns at the same gig or when practicing. Seems sturdily-made, using mine for about 5 yrs now. But I try to avoid having a neck strap being the only thing holding my horn, just in case.
This is one of many harnesses that I have used throughout my career, First off, let me start by saying contrary to the popular belief from other reviews, this neck strap will and does work pretty well for an alto saxophone. I have used it on two will ease. In order to use it with an alto, simply tighten the straps that come from under your arms and connect by clips to the center (see picture). Also adjust the vertical strap that splits by your neck for proper height and you'll be all set! Adjusting is easy, so it can be done during switching instruments with only minor changes. It's what the adjusting parts are for! Nothing wrong with this strap at all! Shoulder padding is a little thin, but still my top choice for comfort. Buy Neotech with confidence!
This harness is a great thing for a jazz player because it helps give you good posture when standing. Instead of having a straight back and having to arc your neck down to get to the mouthpeice it stays at the perfect height even when you are getting up and down. However I would not suggest it for a clasical player who is used to having a neck strap because when you switch it tends to feel different. With a neck strap you can have flexiblity and can have the sax to your right or in the center and it will feel normal but when you are using the harness while sitting and have the sax to your right the harness hook stays in the center of your chest so it pulls you to the right. But overall it is a good and comfurtable replasment for a neck strap
