With all of the new designs in ligatures and different brands available, this one, along with the Charles Bay remain the BEST ligatures available. I use my Charles Bay mainly, but this one is equally great. Uninhibited vibration of the reeds makes it more responsive than most ligatures.
I have a silver version of this ligature. This has quite the 'Bling" factor when stage lights reflect off the mesh. Like little diamonds. It does have a really nice sound. The separate tightening of the upper and lower screws does have an affect on the sound. I find it takes longer to get the ligature and reed aligned properly than others. So, if your one of those people who likes to swap out reeds fast, this isn't the ligature for you. The reason I gave it a 4 is due to the stretching of the ligature mesh. Over time, the mesh starts to stretch and the parallel plates at the top almost touch. You can compensate by putting a some electrical tape on the mouthpiece, but that makes it harder to use other ligatures since they have a smaller diameter. If you decide to use this ligature exclusively, then it isn't a big issue. There is a silver version of this ligature out there if you're looking for something other than gold.
I use the Olegature on all my saxophones and clarinets and love what it does to my sound. It definitely took care of some problematic notes on both instruments and improved the response on the bottom and top register. The coolest feature about it is the ability to adjust the sound to my liking and optimize the reeds performance. I get much more reeds out of the box now then ever before. On top it looks beautiful and classy. Great product!!!
When I got it I was taken away at the sight of it, then I put it on and played a few notes it is great!! I have come to the conclusion for me the second screw all the way in with no 1st screw is the best, this gives me the flexibility to hit every sharp not on my sax perfectly no more 20 c sharp Ds or Es in time I think I will develop my flat notes to play in tune also, this is truly a great ligature.
