Wow! What a great mouthpiece!! The best I've ever played. It has a great sound high or low. It also gives you amazing control of the notes you’re playing. I especially like the way I can play low C, B and Bb with this piece. The notes stay strong and solid without going out of tune. My teacher noticed a difference in my playing right away. Overall, it's the best on the market. I love the rich sound, and the darkness of the husky. This is the mouthpiece for you!

I have played several mouthpieces through out the years and have had success with several manufacturers. I played a Rico Royal Graftonite B7 and Metalite M7, Selmer Soloist J, Beechler Diamond Inlay S10S, Bobby Dukoff D10, Berg Larsen 105/0M, all of these mouthpieces have fine response but none of them can compare to the power and versatility you get from an Otto Link!! I am a permanent endorser of these mouthpieces; I purchased the Super Tone Master 8 and Super Tone Master NY 8 with an Oleg ligature for each about a week ago. I played on the Berg Larsen and Dukoff I had been playing on for the past 3-years and then switched to the two Otto Links. Don't get me wrong Berg Larsen and Bobby Dukoff make some pretty powerful mouthpieces, but the Otto Links simply have more power, especially the NY model. When I blew into the NY 8 the tone was so big it literally shook the floor!! That is how powerful these mouthpieces are!! A word of advice though, if you are used to playing smaller bored mouthpieces, try a softer reed on the mouthpiece then move up to stronger reeds as you get used to the mouthpiece, this will make things a lot easier and allow you to develop a more powerful tone with the mouthpiece.

"A little inconsistent"

What seems like many years ago, I bought an Otto Link NY model 8 while I was in college. I tried three other regular Otto Links and each one of them sounded completely different. Apparently theyÆre inconsistent. If you're going to buy one I suggest trying at lease 4 or 5 of the same model, and the same facing because they will sound different. I loved the one I bought though. Then I lost it and tried something else. Three years ago I bought an Otto Link NY model 9*. The facing was too big and instead of getting a smaller one I tried several other mouthpieces. Dukoffs, Otto Link RG model, and a Selmer Soloist F. I played the Soloist the most. I loved the dark, dry, mellow tone. I've been playing it up until recently when I started playing in a small jazz and blues club where I didn't have a mic. I wasn't loud enough so tonight I got out my 9* and played it for just a minute or two and it already sounds amazingly better, and louder. I want loud but not Dukoff loud with that bright pop thing in it. Miles said that Trane was the loudest tenor player he ever heard, and Trane used an Otto Link 5*. Compared to the Soloist the Link is brighter. I can control it now; it's not too big for me anymore. It sounds big and warm. It's got that metallic ring over the big fat bottom, or a dark metal mouthpiece sound. I've even got some edge from it with the Rico Jazz Select Filed 2 med reed.

I found a NY7 I am quite happy with (I'd say it's a killer!). If it's your first experience with an Otto Link and you can afford to, then try a handful in one size and pick out what sounds best. Production quality is not consistent. They're all different. The fun part is finding the one that sounds right.

I have tried a few mouthpieces to get that rich sound I wanted to make my Super Action 80 get a true Jazz tone, and this is the one. It is extremely easy blowing; all ranges come out exceptionally well, especially the low C-B-Bb. Great tone all around, altissimo pops out clear as a bell. Save yourself some time and just get this mouthpiece...a true classic.
