My playing has been reborn! What a difference an instrument can make. Easy finger action. My Patricola oboe sounds and plays wonderful! I highly recommend it!
Beautiful warm sound and easier to play. I became first chair out of 6 with the help from this oboe. Highly recommend to any one. I wish I started on this Patricola oboe over the school rental...it would have been a lot easier and sound better practicing.
I purchased this oboe about six or seven years ago now when I had decided to take on oboe full time compared to the clarinet in high school. I absolutely loved this horn for the time I had it. I have to say it is a great choice for the aspiring student oboist. I would not recommend continuing on this horn through college if you intend to make music part of your curriculum though. I loved the silver plated key work and the wonderful options placed into each student instrument, such as a left-hand F key and a third octave key. It helps to stop poor fingering problems before they start at the beginning. This is one of the things that is so hard coming into a college program, having your teacher tell you that you cannot do things that way and you have to reprogram your mental response to that of another fingering. This is a good choice because it does cut down on that particular common problem. I played this oboe in the local community band for a few years as principle oboist. When I decided to pick out my college oboe I went straight back to Patricola for my next musical shopping experience. I ended up purchasing a Patricola Evoluzione Professional Oboe to start off my college career. I have to say many of the wonderful options on this superior level horn are incorporated into the student model made by Patricola. What I have noticed is that the "Student Model" made by Patricola is often better than the oboes labeled as "Intermediate" by many other common student instrument manufacturers. I've recently tested out many student level instruments at a music educator's conference in Greensboro, NC to find that they do not begin to hold a candle to this instrument. I have to admit with the decreasing value of the US dollar and the rapid increase in the value of the Euro the price for these instruments are rapidly increasing due to the exchange rate. When I purchased my student model back in 2003 I paid just under $1600 for it. It is now approaching $2500. Do not miss out on this instrument before the price jumps again. I do not own this instrument anymore. I actually sold it to the second oboist in the Craven Community Concert Band when I purchased my new horn. From what I have heard she has nothing but praise for it. Good luck oboe shopping.
