I've been using this stand at home and for various rehearsals for over a year. It is very sturdy, lightweight to carry at about 5.6 lbs, and has it's own carry bag. However, I've gotten tired of the hassle that comes with its double duty of use at home and at rehearsals. It takes a couple extra minutes to fold up or open up and my hands are always full. Otherwise it is a great stand for the price. I am ordering another, less complicated stand to carry to rehearsals.
This is the best stand I've ever used. It's lightweight, very portable and easy to fold up. It has the stability and holding power of a metal Manhasset stand without the weight or cost, plus you can carry it anywhere! When my quintet saw my stand, they all wanted one and got them-- now we match. It works really well outside; it won't blow over in the wind and helps keep your music in place too. Best value out there for stands, in my opinion.
First off, I love the carry bag and its strong handles - I can carry my alto flute on the top of the bag. The stand is strong and light yet sturdy. The adjustment clamps are easy to lock and unlock, precise and secure like no other and the tubing glides from height to height. It has generous dimensions suitable for my music when either playing or conducting, heaps of room on the ledge for tuner, baton etc. As with any new stand though, I pull off the rubber feet and replace each after applying a little glue inside to ensure they stay put.
I have been using this stand for about 2 years and it has never let me down. I play in a big band and keep my music in very heavy binders. I can put a binder with over 300 pages on this stand with no problem. It has 2 small arms that can be pivoted up to help hold your pages in place which work great for outdoor gigs. I can attach a clip on stand light with no problem. The only downside I have found is that accessories like mute holders that attach to the lip of the stand don't often fit. However, the Jo-ral mute holders that attach to the shaft work fine. It is compact and the bag is easy to throw over your shoulder.
I wanted a more sturdy portable stand than the traditional wire variety. Other choices on the market work fine but are less convenient and more expensive. I ordered the standard length Peak. It's easy to set up and its folding plastic desk supports a slide-on 2-inch base that holds my full music binder with ease. There are page retainers on the edge of the base but they may not be enough protection in a gusty outdoor performance. The tubular metal legs unfold to a fixed tripod base and the vertical sections extend and lock in place with lever-style clamps similar to a photo tripod. It folds to approximately 5" by 5" by 28" (inches) before you put it in its included bag. I love it because it's light, compact, easy to carry, and cleverly designed.
