I just got this stand, but so far it seems very sturdy and well-made; the set-up is smooth and fun. The desk is made of a thick, sturdy plastic. The fold hinges look a bit tacky to me, but it's cool that it folds up like that. I don't know if the rods for holding music would hold anything But thick music books because they just stick straight up on the front edge of the shelf, but maybe that's good...like I say, I just got it. I also like the bag and the extra space it has.
I've been using this stand at home and for various rehearsals for over a year. It is very sturdy, lightweight to carry at about 5.6 lbs, and has it's own carry bag. However, I've gotten tired of the hassle that comes with its double duty of use at home and at rehearsals. It takes a couple extra minutes to fold up or open up and my hands are always full. Otherwise it is a great stand for the price. I am ordering another, less complicated stand to carry to rehearsals.
This stand is reasonably priced and well made, it has a lot of room on the desk, and if you need to use clips to hold music outside, the sides are thin enough to clamp to. It's sturdy and adjustable, very useful again for outdoors use. It breaks down easily, stores easy and there is a lot of room in the carry bag so I can put my clarinet floor stand in there as well.
First off, I love the carry bag and its strong handles - I can carry my alto flute on the top of the bag. The stand is strong and light yet sturdy. The adjustment clamps are easy to lock and unlock, precise and secure like no other and the tubing glides from height to height. It has generous dimensions suitable for my music when either playing or conducting, heaps of room on the ledge for tuner, baton etc. As with any new stand though, I pull off the rubber feet and replace each after applying a little glue inside to ensure they stay put.
I was thinking about buying a new music stand to replace my old wire stand. I was looking at all different types. Then at one of my practices the bassoon player showed up with this stand. I asked him how he liked it and he was complaining that he could not attach his reed holder cup to the stand and was sorry that he bought it. He offered to sell it to me if I liked it. That was 3 years ago. I think is one of the best stands around. Since I got it I know of six other people that bought one because they saw mine. My only complaint is the self that used to attach to bottom of my old stand to hold reeds and glass cases does not attach to this one with out using binder clips. After the bassoon player saw what I did to attach my shelf he started to wonder why he didn't do the same thing to attach his reed holder. I would buy another one if I needed one.
