I've been playing on this amp for two years, and it has held up flawlessly. It's seen upwards of around 8 gigs and countless hours of practice. I don't use it for shows anymore, as it has been replaced by a twin reverb, but I was so attached to it I decided to keep it for practices. The Bandit does everything and the sound is amazing for a solid state 112. The two channels will take you from jazz to thrash metal, and every stop in between. The clean channel is excellent, and holds its own next to my twin reverb. It features a vintage/modern voicing switch; no they are not separate channels, they are simply different voicing. The vintage puts more emphasis on punchy lows and sharp highs, while the modern provides a more contoured sound. The lead channel also provides a number of different voicing: vintage, modern, and high gain. The vintage, my personal favorite, gives you those "brown" tones, similar to the sounds of a 1959 Marshall 100 watt Plexi and great for classic rock. The modern voicing provides a highly distorted, scooped sound that rivals a dual rectifier, and provides good thrash sounds. The high gain voicing provides loads of distortion, and a fat sound with crunchy mids, big bottom and loud highs, similar to that of a Marshall jcm 800. The master channel has a reverb control, presence, which controls the articulation of high frequencies, a resonance switch, which when switched to loose allows the speaker to resonate more, providing the sound of a larger cabinet, and a t-dynamics control. The t-dynamics controls the over-all power of the amp, allowing you to keep your tone at any volume. The amp also features a convenient two-button footswitch, an effects loop, pre amp input jack, which bypasses the amp's pre amp, and an external speaker jack, for sending the preamp signal to an 8-ohm external cabinet, such as a 4-12. The amp is all in all, an excellent and extremely versatile amp for its price.
Has many great sounds from warm jazz to in-your-face hardcore. Comes at a low price and is deffinatly a great deal. There is only one minor problem- this amp has alot of background buzz (when gain is medium to high)which does not change your sound when playing but becomes annoying between songs.
I've had this amp for years, and it has never been anything but amazing. The Transtube adds a tone to the amp that I haven?t been able to find in any other solid states. The clean channel is amazing, and as everyone has said is great for jazz. Loud enough for small-medium gigs. Buy it. This beast does not disappoint.
Keep in mind that this is a hybrid amp, solid state power amp with a tube preamp.
In my opinion, the clean channel was a bit weak and muddy-sounding. Great distortion, from a fat blues sound to a buzzsaw heavy metal grind, although as mentioned, this thing hums like crazy when you run it on lead, even at relatively low volumes.
You get what you pay for, and I would highly recommend this amp to someone starting out or looking for a powerful practice amp, but it's not gig-worthy, unless you want to run a noise gate.
I first bought a Fender amp, it was quite small so I thought I should get a new one. I didn't know what to get, but I found exactly what I wanted. This amp can go from metal to blues with a push of the pedal. The owners manual is also very informative. I used this amp in a show and I thought it was great, now I sound more like 3 Days Grace, than B. B. King.
