I am totally smitten with this amp. It is the first tube amp I have owned, although I have played through dozens. It has a great tone that is all its own. Most likely it will give you what you need if you play classic/hard rock or country. Not for metal, but I don't really play metal. The clean channel is really clean and nice sounding, and then when you switch over to the dirty channel it gives you a nice crunch that you can dial up to an even nicer distortion. There is a boost button that gives you a little more power for solos. The two channels can be switched by a footswitch. There is a speaker extension jack that you can use to plug the amp into a cabinet. I haven't done that but I've read that it sounds great and I love that I have that option. I bought the tweed version and it's gorgeous. It's definitely loud. For what I do, I rarely have to turn it past 2. My only gripe about this is that I wish Peavey would have included a footswitch, but, oh well. It's a great amp without being a burden on my budget.

600 bucks ain't cheap but this amp almost eliminates the regrets I have about selling my Mesa Boogie in 1981 (yes, back in the day when you had to individually order them!). Overdrive is both warm and dirty and tone in both channels is great. It can really crank too. Sturdy enough for frequent gigs. Footpedal is cheap but so far has held up. Handles blues and heavy rock with equal aplomb. Add a distortion pedal to the overdrive and this baby sings. Plug and Play, no tweaking necessary.
