The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is that it took me a while to get comfortable assembling the stand, quickly. As for sturdiness, it is absolutely the best that I've found, with the exception of the Manhasset. It is heavier than the little chrome things, but they're so flimsy that it's almost pointless to use. This is a solid stand without those annoying little clamps on the shelf that tears up music, not helping at all. It's also nice enough that it can be used in public performances without embarassment. It is sturdy and has lasted me for 3 years, so far with no difficulty at all. As a matter of fact, I'm about to order another one because one of my advanced students is so in love with it (after I loaned to to her) that she wants to buy it from me! Really fantastic product. I'd give it 5 stars if they could make it just a little quicker to assemble at first glance (although it really is a snap once you've done it a few times).

"Ideal compromise between portability and stability, but with two flaws."

The Peterson stand is the ideal compromise between the portability of a wire stand and the stability of a concert stand. The carrying case is excellent as well. However, this stand has two problems. The first is that the legs will easily fall out if the stand is bumped into while in use. The second is the difficulty of finding accessories such as mute racks, lights, etc. with a large enough jaw or alternate device to clip on to the relatively thick surfaces of this stand.

"Great concept, though a couple improvements could be made"

I bought this stand about three years ago because it was on sale (in the neighborhood of under $30) and for its presentable looks and portability. Once you get used to it, it doesn't take too long to assemble. The metal legs also ensure a sturdy base. There are also hidden, wire extensions that increase the size of the desk, in case the score opens up and the pages go beyond the shelf. My main complaint is all the plastic, particularly the shelf; it seems as though it cannot take too much weight and placing a heavier folder or thick binder filled with music on it feels risky. I hope that they improve on this in the future, because it's a nice idea for a stand.

I appreciated the aluminum extension when I took the stand on a tour in Europe. It was excellent for getting the necessary height for the percussion row. This stand holds most of the heavy music very well, but the available "junk" tray will not fit on it. In addition, we bought it some time ago and have found that the plastic parts can be broken easily, especially around the legs. Finally, temperature often causes various parts to "jam," so taking these apart can be nearly impossible after a vigorous rehearsal. Keep improving it. Thanks.

I bought this stand before going to college. I have found it worth every penny. It adjusts in every way a typical stand does and is very sturdy. I use it regularly at basketball games and other odd location performances. My pep band director is even considering buying a set for the pep band to limit the number of wire stand issues (i.e. falling down the bleachers) If you have any need for a portable stand this is the one to get.
