I just received this mouthpiece in the mail today and I really like it. This mouthpiece is very open and has a great sound through out the entire range of the clarinet. I use a Vandoren optimum ligature and use a Vandoren 2 reed. I highly recommend this mouthpiece to any jazz clarinetist.
I purchased a used Pomarico Level 2 Jazz clarinet mouthpiece which arrived today. Having done some research, I decided to take a chance. The mouthpiece performed exactly as I had hoped, and them some. I am playing a no-name Albert system instrument which produces the big mellow tone I had been striving for. The Pomarico augmented that and provides ease of playing in the upper register. The ligature is a Francois Louis which fits just fine. Very very satisfied with this product. If it breaks, I'll buy another.
I recently began venturing into jazz and chose this mouthpiece. I got it a few days ago and was very pleased with how it played. This was my very first non-Vandoren mouthpiece and I'm stunned with how similar the feel was to my classical mouthpiece (M13 Lyre). It is very heavy, though, and has a much larger diameter. My current ligature barely fits around it. But overall a great mouthpiece with a great jazzy sound.
This mouthpiece opened up a whole new world of jazz playing - I can gliss and play high notes with ease, and the tone in the lower register is warm, and smooth. I tried this mouthpiece with both a leather and rope ligature, and when I first got it, played for about two hours, it was just so much fun, especially with the rope ligature. Really easy to adapt to playing on, I also bought a mouthpiece cushion, because the glass felt unusual on my teeth, but this is a personal preference for the player. Highly recommended!
I got this mouthpiece for my clarinet and am very satified with it. It was exactly what I was going for, brighter then my Selmer C* but not shrill sounding and VERY smooth and even in its tone across the entire horn. The highest notes (C# and above) were almost no more shrill as any other note on the clarinet which sort of amazed me because for me at least I have always found that part of the range annoying both as a player and a composer. From what people have told me when I was looking into getting it, mouthpieces made from not traditional material tend to not be well regarded just based on the fact that they aren't made from traditional matterial. But it was well reviewed by users online so I gave it a shot. It is not "all for looks" or "cheap sounding" like some people who had never played it thought it would be. As a composer I find the tone different yet intriguing and may use it as a classical mouthpiece from time to time as well as for jazz; such as for works that may cater to a brighter sound. I recommend you try it. It's really cool! I plan on getting a matching one for my bass clarinet when I have the funds to do so because I am so satisified with this one. My taste of sound may be unconventional because I'm a composer and the way I want to hear a clarinet may be slightly different then others might be.
