OVERVIEW

Fits all saxophone types.

Protec's Baritone/Tenor/Alto Leather "Less Stress" Neck Straps are made of soft and beautiful high grade leather and have separate left and right neck pads to reduce pressure to the middle spine. This one adjusts between 19 to 24" from the neck strap to the bottom of the hook; neck strap measures 2" wide.

The metal Comfort Bar is a unique tri-purpose feature to this strap: it creates a large opening for easy wear and removal, helps relieve neck stress by pulling the strap away from the sides of the neck, and allows for effortless length adjustment. A rubber sleeve on the sturdy metal trigger swivel snap gently secures the strap to your horn.

Overpriced length of string attached to shiny bar.

Comments about Protec 24" Leather Saxophone Neckstrap with Metal Snap and Comfort Bar:

The most uncomfortable and difficult to adjust neck strap I've owned since I started playing. As to ease of use, it rates below the original string and hook strap that originally came with my first saxophone in 1959 (and probably cost more than the case that horn came in). Total gimmick!

Needs constant adjustment

Comments about Protec 24" Leather Saxophone Neckstrap with Metal Snap and Comfort Bar:

Pros: High quality material. Leather is comfortable (although a bit stiff at first); the metal clip has a rubber top to prevent scratching the horn and is very secure; takes only one hand to adjust length. The quality of the leather and padding really is good! Cons: Metal comfort bar doesn't give me much benefit. If you play sitting down it has a tendency to bump against the horn, potentially denting/scratching your horn. The nylon cords between the comfort bar and the metal clip require constant adjustment. Every time I lay the horn on my lap while sitting, the cord lengthens, and when I bring the horn back up, my mouthpiece is like 3-6'' lower. I play a lot of big band music, and this means that every time I rest I have to hoist the comfort bar up. Seriously, every rest requires me to adjust the neck strap. This is mostly due to the weight of the comfort bar: if I give the nylon cords even a little bit of slack, then the metal comfort bar pulls down and causes the cords to unwind. The only solution I've found is to keep the cords under constant tension to prevent any slack. Conclusion: This neck strap requires constant attention and fiddling. This is a total deal breaker for me. I need a strap that I can adjust once, then completely forget about while I'm playing. Maybe others have more luck with this while standing, but even when I play standing up, I tend to bring the horn up and closer to my body when resting. This also causes the cord to lengthen! ps - The 24'' was a bit too long for me. I'm 5' 6'' and the 22'' fit perfectly.

Less Stress, More Comfort

Comments about Protec 24" Leather Saxophone Neckstrap with Metal Snap and Comfort Bar:

I just received this as a gift, along with a second, less expensive option. The difference in the two was remarkable. The design of this strap removes pressure from the spine and the neck, making it as comfortable to wear as a harness type strap that I've worn with my tenor sax for years. I was surprised that the 'comfort bar' did exactly as it claimed it would - reduced overall pressure on the sides of the neck. The metal swivel and snap certainly appears like it's going to last longer than I will. (The snap on the aforementioned harness strap lasted 20 years, so I'd predict at least 50 for this metal one). If I find after playing for several hours that I feel differently about this strap, I'll log in and modify this post or write a new one. As of now, I think it's a good deal for the money.

Protec 24" Sax Strap

Comments about Protec 24" Leather Saxophone Neckstrap with Metal Snap and Comfort Bar:

Being a vocalist sub-ing on Alto intermittently through out a show, I was impressed that this strap creates little (if any) Neck Muscle Tension that I experienced with most other straps. Relaxation of throat and neck muscles are practiced goals of Vocalist's and Horn Players alike, and this accommodates just that. 1) by re-distributing the weight to two points ( we use a similar "Spreader Bar" in Windsurfing and Kite-boarding) and 2) by increasing spacing as the strap come around the neck, helping to eliminate any noose effect common in other straps. The quality of the entire set-up is top-notch , with well padded soft leather neck section, coated swivel, and a nice alloy Comfort Bar. The only improvement I could envision would be for Protec to find a lighter alloy (or other material) for the Bar, and I only say that because it's bounces around when I am not wearing the horn.
