This gig bag came with my tuba, Miraphone 1291.It has now been replaced because of the following reasons: The bag is clumsy in size, way to big for my tuba and most others. Also, when you are wearing it, the straps fall down quickly and the tuba tends to sag at about 30-45 degrees from vertical. The padding seems sufficient but it is not. The corners are NOT padded. I have brushed the corners twice (because of the sagging) and wound up with now 3 creases in my bell. Also, where the strap are attached to bag are very close to failing completely. The bottom part of the strap, where attached to the tuba via a metal slide does not function correctly either. The rectangular metal slide always slips sideways and puts uneven pressure on the bag. Last, the bag does not prevent the tuba from moving around. Basically, the tuba pushes the top of the gig bag out to where there is almost a half foot of empty room in the bag, leading to the horn moving around. This is just a padded back with 3 straps and some pockets sewn on. This is not suitable to protect an investment like a tuba. Try Alteri, Reunion Blues, PT cases, or a hard case.
This gig bag came with my Miraphone 188. I've disliked it so much I've stopped using it completely. It's way too big for the horn, and the backpack straps won't stay where I adjust them to. So not only does the horn flop around inside the case when I'm carrying it on my back, but the straps come loose and the whole bag starts swinging around. I'm currently looking for a replacement.
I bought this case when I originally purchased my horn. It fit my BAT very well and I had no struggles transporting my instrument in this case. I thought it was a great reliable case. The last time I used this case, I was on my way to a rehearsal I was carrying the case backpack style. I heard a slight ripping noise and a friend ran up behind me and grabbed my horn before it fell out of the bottom of the case. The zipper had failed and almost dropped my horn onto the floor. I will never buy a ProTec case again.
I've had one for about 6 years. I use it to haul around a Yamaha 201, which is a pretty good-sized tuba. Have had no problems with zippers or handles. One zipper pouch is big enough to carry a regular-sized band folder, plus a lightweight folding stand (if you're willing to let a little bit of the stand hang out). The second pouch is big enough to carry all your mouthpieces plus valve oil, plus a water bottle for those hot summer night concerts.
This is about the only bag that will fit a conn 21j. Was using it for about 8 weeks. It was relatively comfortable, protected the finish, and had tons of room for the useless things tuba players carry around!! I used it "backpack" style all the time. One day i was carrying it to a lesson and the backpack strap broke. Flattened the rim of the bell about 1/2 of an inch. If your strap breaks, the case is strong enough that you can slide it "garbage can" style on the floor, and it will protect your tuba. Its kinda fun too!!! There's a reason they make hard cases. And thats what I'm back to using!! Protec needs to reinforce the lower attachment of the straps for this case to be effective.
