REKA PRODUCTS

REKA makes everything you need to keep your instrument in perfect playing condition. With brass instruments, regular and thorough inner cleaning is a must. Residues enter the instrument during playing. With time, they alter the dimensions of the air passages, which disturbs the playing qualities, and they chemically attack the inside of the tubing, eating at the metal over time. These residues also influence the flow of air through the instrument and even affect how the metal vibrates. With the materials available until now, properly cleaning the INSIDE of a brass instrument has not been possible. The ancient method of soaking the instrument in water and shaking and turning it to loosen built-up residues is time-consuming and quite ineffective.
With REKA Cleaning Sets, you have the perfectly suited materials to make it fast, easy, and comfortable to care for any brass instrument properly, thus retaining optimal playing qualities and maximizing longevity. Each Cleaning Set includes four parts, of which the most important is the sponge rubber swab. This tool is matched to a French horn bore and is pulled easily through every tube and crook for effective removal of all foreign substances. Cleaning the sharpest bends and even the short sections between valve casings is no problem.

Very Effective if Used Properly

Comments about Reka French Horn Cleaning Kit:

The REKA Cleaning Kit does a great job of scrubbing out the valves and slides with soap. It may be difficult or impossible to get through some of the tubing on the horn body. As another reviewer stated, it is possible to get the cleaning ball stuck in the lead pipe. To prevent this you MUST force the ball into the small end first and then draw it through. Also, be aware that the device will wear out with use. I just ordered my third set as a backup.

Caused $75 Repair

Comments about Reka French Horn Cleaning Kit:

It seemed like a good idea to give my old horn a proper scrub inside, so I bought the REKA. I carefully read the instructions to make sure that there were no contraindications about using it to clean the lead pipe. There were none, though it did not specifically say to use it there either I must admit. Well, I wet the sponge on the end of the cord and soaped it and ran the bead through the tuning valve side of the lead pipe and out the mouthpiece receiver. For a brief moment I thought, this sponge seems a little large. Stupidly, I pulled it in anyway. Then that little orange ball got stuck. Of course. With a touch of panic, I read the instructions again multiple times to see if I had misread. No. I even read it in German to check for a bad translation. No. I was mortified and tried to get it unstuck myself so that I wouldn't have to admit to the repair guy what I had done. Then, I got it more stuck. After half a day of brainstorming, making phone calls, trying various tools and the fetching of a spaghetti strap turning tool from an employee's sewing box, it cost $75 dollars and a blemish in the lacquer to get that nasty little sponge out again (and the other thing I got stuck while trying to get it out myself). Well, I have to give the manufacturers some credit--the cord did not separate from the sponge even as hard as I pulled. Yeah for German engineering.
